Possible Mast Cell Tumour

We have been for a ten minute walk , he with his new harness on which has a mid back loop for the lead and a lovely soft breastplate so no pressure on his chest at all . He is such a creature of habit and has begun to cry at the door , he coped everso well with no pulling , and has come home much happier but still a bit of whimpering , baby steps xxx

Dont look if you are squeamish please x
Just to give you an idea of the size of the site , I check it every day . I am keeping his medical suit on as it is breathable and I know if I dont , one minute of not watching him will see him scratching it . The site looks good , very little seepage at all and dry to the touch but the size did shock me although his is being such a brave boy xx

The wound looks nice and healthy, if yes - BIG. This may sound weird, but I'm glad she made it so big, best chance of getting everything at the first go so Reuben (and you) has the best chance of never hearing the big "C" word again. With his lovely fur, as soon as it grows back, you'll never notice it (not that you would worry about that).

He is being amazing today , wagging his tail all the time . He doesnt mind his new harness but hates the clicking noise of the flexi lead so I will ditch it . What Sue did say was that there was another much smaller tumour right next to the main one , so small that I hadnt felt it at all and this is one reason why the incision is so large plus her taking extra large margins so I totally agree @Emily_Babbelhund better safe than sorry . I`m just thankful that he is doing so well , just a little more tired than usual , we have been for another short walk which seems to settle him xxx

Margins margins margins that's what you want big margin

When my vet removed Snowie’s nipple, I was shocked at the very long wound—like Reuben’s. She explained that to avoid the ends from puckering when stitching closed a circle and causing bad scarring, you have to rather cut a long oval. Perhaps this is why Reuben’s wound is so long?

Ah, a brave boy indeed. That's our dogs though isn't it? Far more stoicism than us humans.

It is a large area but it sounds like that vet was being ultra sure to remove everything possible, good for her, and as others have said, it looks good and clean.

Still sending hugs for you @kateincornwall , difficult and scary times, you are one brave person though, dealing so well with this again. Thank god Reuben has you   x

Thank you again dear friends for all your support and love for our dear Reuben . I wont be posting on this thread again until we have the results of the staging from the laboratory which I hope may be within another five to seven days . You never sound rude Kate and of course you're feeling in a bit of a mess. All of us who love our dogs here (and that really is all of us) would be the same. My thoughts remain very much with you and I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say just take your time, be with Reuben and the rest of your family and come back to us when you're ready. We'll still be here.
