It has all been worth it for the lovely day we had today. Rachel borrowed a friend's working Cocker, Millie, who is just a year old. We went to Ludlow Cove and Durdle Door, the sun shone and it was beautiful. Joy and Millie because great friends, and Millie did her first ever retrieve from the sea under Joy's expert tuition! We're back at home finally, after another somewhat prolonged train journey, due to broken down trains and signal problems, but at least we didn't have to go through central London this time! We had a wonderful couple of days with Mags@Boogie, Tatze and Ted, not forgetting Mr Boogs of course and his delicious Lasagne.
Here are a few photos...20230607_203151.jpg20230607_203623.jpg20230607_203226.jpg20230607_204242.jpgMany thanks to Mags, John, Tatze and Ted for making us feel so welcome. It was lovely to see them after all this time, and to be introduced to the beautiful place where they have chosen to relocate. We look forward to welcoming them back here for a return visit.

Incase anyone isn't aware, there is a move afoot to close down ticket booking offices at UK railway stations, leaving everyone having to book their train travel online. This will obviously have a huge impact on people who for whatever reason have problems with online booking (Visually impaired, or elderly possibly, or not having access to the internet just as examples that spring immediately to mind) but also I suspect on people wanting to travel with a dog (like me!)
I always ask the advice of the very kind and helpful people in the ticket office when I'm going to be travelling by train with Joy. I need to work out how many stops we'll need on a long journey, so that she can go for a wee and to stretch her paws for a bit, I need to know when it's not likely to be too busy and crowded, so she doesn't get trodden on and so very many other things that I don't believe online booking will take into account. OK, our most recent travels have not gone entirely to plan and she has coped brilliantly, but I still would prefer to know that I've done my best to make the journey as comfortable for her as possible and I don't believe that an impersonal online booking system can offer me this reassurance. So please, everyone, if you can possibly find a way to speak out against this planned change, then do. It's not just for GGJ and me, it's for everyone else who travels by train and for whatever reason needs that little extra advice/reassurance.
Thankyou xxx

This won’t encourage train travel, especially from smaller, country stations where the only available member of staff is usually in the ticket office. I seldom travel by train - and have booked in advance online for longer planned journeys - but it’s always good to know that there’s an actual person available in the ticket office.

@Candy For some reason I missed your account of your trip to Bournemouth and to Mags until now. Wow, what an adventurous journey with all those train delays - GGJ sounds like a star! The photos look lovely and I'm glad it made your efforts worthwhile.

Sadly our rail system is in a complete mess and closing down ticket offices is just another negative action that will affect a lot of people. The train strikes and cancellations are already impacting enormously on people. My family who regularly travel to London now go by car as they’ve had too many journeys where last minute they are having to change plans because their train is suddenly cancelled or there is a strike. I suspect many others are doing the same as them for the same reasons. Goes against everything that should be happening but they have no choice

No it won’t unfortunately @Candy

Here we are again, my seasoned travelling companion and me, on the Nottingham train, going to stay with my brother and co. for a bit of a family get together. Due to our first train being delayed, we had to run to make our connection as we only had three minutes to spare, but as always GGJ takes it all in her stride. Here she is, calmly inspecting our fellow passengers. 20230802_165859.jpg
