I really like this idea.
Along with Snowie, it seems like this has been a particularly hard year for saying goodbye to our Forum legends.
Even though this is a safe place for talking about dogs both past and present, speaking from experience, it can feel - not sure of the right word, but maybe ‘uncertain’ to talk about your loss. Does it help or make the pain worse? Is it too much, too little, too soon, too late ? But if there’s any place I can say this about, I know here that we’d always welcome shared memories and photos of ‘our dogs’ who have passed on.
Everyone deals with grief differently and what helps one person may feel too heavy for others. The right time may come sooner or later.
Having said that, I truly think that discovering our original forum and being able to share memories and photos of Brogan there (I joined about a year after he passed) saved my sanity and helped me balance the grief with remembering his life and the good times. Sharing his life with others who became friends was healing, so that eventually I was able to find a certain Spanish gentleman to be Brogan’s worthy successor - even if Carbón would say I was WAY too slow about it!
And I know from being on the other side, I’m always so glad (again, not sure if that’s the right word) to see a post with a story or photo of our dogs who have passed. It keeps them alive in a way, and helps remind me of why it’s always worth it to take home that new dog or puppy, in a way honouring the ones that came before.
@M.F. I hope you are making it through this hardest time and were able to say your goodbyes to Snowie in the way that is best for you.
