Doggy brags

Maybe it's a coincidence, but I'm going to take it that "Walk" has now made it into his little neural synapses. Wooo hoooo!!!!
Good boy for listening Carbon.
Some of the best cues I use with Maisy are ones she has chosen. I spent months getting her to come by saying 'come on' and stuck with it thinking she needed more practise. Then I said 'Maisy come here' in a slightly different way and wham, there she was instantly running toward me. Now I stick with that and she has suddenly got and amazing recall.

This is more of a doggy smug than a doggy brag but when we got Stanley our neighbours had just gotten a golden retriever puppy a few months before.

Well the woman next door has never been that complimentary about my little man. First of all because he cried a lot, then he wasn’t very well behaved etc. She even said at one point she was pretty sure he wasn’t a Labrador because he was too small.

I’ve always just put it down to jealously because you know.. Stanley’s amazing and her dog just isn’t as good.

Well she’s always training this dog.. ALWAYS! I have to admit, I’m pretty lazy with Stanley and most of his training is done on walks now - practicing recall etc. But I know this dog is still on a long line because her recall isn’t very good.

Anyway.. I’ve just heard them in the garden and there she is.. with her clicker, whistle and bum bag. Trying to teach her dog heel who is having none!!

She’s just sat down looking at her like 🤔

Part of me was tempted to go out and walk round the garden with Stanley at heel just to be smug because she always criticised him at every opportunity.. but I thought better of it. I’m going to have a baby crying all night in a few weeks and I think that’s revenge enough for now 😏

I'd say you got that one in the bag!

Hunter is also quite small and most people also assume that he is a "She"!
Ditto for Carbon. I guess it doesn't help that my favourite bandana lately has daisies on it.

My brag for Carbon today is that he and I devised a game to teach him 'drop it' with two tennis balls. He loved it and caught on immediately. It's the first cue we've trained that he went nuts for. I also introduced the tennis balls for 'leave it'. That was tough, but he didn't take the ball once, even rolling across the floor. We are a long way from preventing him losing his mind and chasing other dogs' balls on the beach, but it's a place to start. :)

This is sort of a doggy and husband brag. My husband wasn't sure about all this dog training stuff when we first got Chewie (beyond basic obedience), but he has now really gotten into it. The other night he was asking me for suggestions about what to train next! I suggested a reliable hand touch. And bless them, they have been working on it every evening since and Chewie is really getting it.

It warms my heart to see them training. :)

I normally avoid taking Booms on the school pick up due to the carnage with over-excited pup + pushchair + the craziness of school.

But feeling brave and getting suckered into the sad eyes as I got ready to leave…he came today.

And he was awesome. He adored being fussed by all H’s 5 yr old friends. And other than throwing in a few play bows at the kids and full body wags he was a calm delight.

AND then was a dream walking home on the lead with them all AND even managed a LAT while two yappy dogs walked past - which in itself is a HUGE achievement at the moment!

(Fingers crossed this is a training win rather than an early warning sign he’s getting ill!)

This boy is getting roast chicken for tea tonight :inlove:

He’s 1yr and a half now - so I guess technically I should stop referring to him as a pup!!

But he has a puppy look about him at times and some behaviours are still stuck at puppy training stages so I occasionally might down play his age to help escape embarrassing situations :$
Maxx is one and a half too but I still tell people he is a puppy for exactly the same reason. Sigh.

As we turned into the road where we live last evening, the huge ginger cat that lives nearby was sitting on the opposite pavement almost willing Red to try and lunge over to him. Well I had a few treats in my hand, so lowered my other hand down the lead and briskly said ‘this way’. Red was a star - she totally ignored him and trotted by my side really nicely past him. She got the treats and I heard myself saying ‘good choice Red’ 😊

I had this with a pheasant that Maisy spotted the other day, she stood and stared, I distracted her and told her to leave and she came away nicely. The next day we turned a corner, she took off and chased 2 ducks that were in a field. So I didn't bother bragging about it.

Well done Red though, it makes you proud when they are so good - I assume!

Bursting with pride at Reuben today . In the forest we took a trail I havent taken before, isolated and beautiful . Nelly by my side , Reuben just a little way ahead when he looked down into the dense rough , his tail straight out behind him . He just stood there watching something which when I got closer, turned out to be a Roe Deer just below us . The deer must have suddenly got our scent and began to move off deeper into the undergrowth , and my boy could no longer contain himself and followed, but he never barked and he didnt run but went out of my sight completely . I waited for a minute or two , then used the whistle , within seconds he appeared, all panting and proud as punch . The rest of our trek he was on very high alert , nose up scenting the air just like Sam used to do but not once did he leg it , bless him xxx
