    Harv does scent work

The form, as we discovered today, is to record each scent find that Harv does - type of scent, weather conditions, results and any comments. That way we can track his progress, see if he’s better when it’s wet or dry, hot or cold etc etc. Not too much equipment really. Harness and a longline...

    Harv does scent work

Ok. @UncleBob and Harvey started their scent training proper this morning. After the first go, which was a bit "woohoo I'm in a field" Harv settled down and was excellent. His handler needs some work though! 😉 I'm sure @UncleBob will post some more details later, but thought I'd post some...

The Kennel Club - no hoomans allowed!

I, I, I've not been on here b4 (my hoomans don't usually let me), but my duck sploded. It happens to all my stuffies, don't know why? I reckon it's that peskie squeaky thing inside all of them escaping like an alien. Harv.

    Foul mouth complaint

I remember watching a Stephen Fry program where they repeated an experiment which showed that swearing can increase pain tolerance. It was something about being able to keep your hand in ice water for longer if you were swearing at the time. Works best if you don’t usually swear. Hypoalgesic...

My Labrador Friends Book Club - Fiction Choice

I’ve just ordered The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Release date 03.09.2020. Figured it will be a surprise present from myself as I’m sure I’ll have forgotten all about ordering it by then!

How did you choose your dogs name?

Harvey is named after the 6 foot invisible rabbit from the James Stewart movie. Not sure I remember why now, but it definitely suits him.

    Harv's sixth advanced class

I've just looked back through @UncleBob 's posts to refresh my memory. First week - pretty good, some sniffing, but not much. Second week, really sniffy. Third week really good. Fourth week, awful. Fifth week, excellent. Sixth week, back to really sniffy. It was this look back that made me...

    Harv's sixth advanced class

He is quite a sniffy dog, although we have put it on cue. "Go sniff" and he's off, nose to ground and then pee. If we take a dummy and do a little training (usually at the local cricket ground) then he doesn't drop the dummy to go sniffing. He zooms straight back every time.

Given half a chance definitely sniffing and then peeing.

    Harv's sixth advanced class

This does happen and is usually preceded by a hoolie. The trainer is really good at spotting it and sending @UncleBob and Harv off to a quiet area, but this intense sniffing seems different. Looking back at @UncleBob 's posts I think I might have spotted a common thread in Harv's less than good...

    Pet Insurance

This works very well with many things - I've had great success with electricity, telephone & Internet, AA membership, Sky tv. I tried with Argos for the pet insurance after last year's big hike and they wouldn't budge. Other providers may be more flexible. @UncleBob

That would be Waitrose. They don't look very appetising to me, but, they do it for Harv.

    Magic Word

Bit late joining this thread, but Harv's magic word is "jumbles". Works best shouted in a very cheerful voice. Jumbles are his bestest, favouritest treats and he'll fly back at the promise of one. :tail:
