    Raw, combination or no change?

Absolutely @Jennifer - in theory it's balanced. Unless you have completed some interesting mathematical calculations you don't know if the minerals and vitamins from each food have remained in balance as different amounts are frequently quoted on different foods. Most of what we calculate...

Different Training Techniques for Different Puppies?

Hi @Sophiedoodle I wouldn't even try to train a sit at the moment with this pup. Instead wirk on rewarding for each and every glance towards you gradually building towards eye contact. No need to verbalize anything apart from verbal marker for the glance. Treat does not have to be taken from...

    Magic Word

Absolutely @Charlie. The 'magic' word shouldn't be one that you frequently use as you want it as your emergency recall and it means come to me immediately (for a huge reward 😊) - not run towards me, then past looking for someone else. You should use it sparingly, all other 'recalls' should be...

    Shadows & lights

This behaviour does raise concerns. Yes she is under stress at the moment due to new environment , but most digs find kennels very stressful as well. Please keep a close eye on this and management may be key to prevent shadows as much as possible.

    Raw, combination or no change?

Canine Nutritionists that I have the pleasure of knowing, and dog food production companies that I have spoken to all advise not to mix feeding raw with kibble as in their opinion it is difficult to ensure that you are providing the correct balance of nutrients. My dog food company admits that...

    Shadows & lights

Hi @edzbird how often is this behaviour occurring? Is it always the same sources of light/shadow or does it vary? How responsive is Meg? How easy is it to distract Meg? Sorry for the questions but I have know a couple trainers/behaviourists who are working with clients whose dogs are displaying...

    Meg

That's rather a large assumption to make. The transcript says that they watched The Dog Whisperer. I've watched the programme, as has my OH, so does that mean my dog is abused 🤔? Let's not make assumptions - it sounds as if this couple tried very hard to work with Meg and do their best for her.

    Trouble eating

I think this is the study you are thinking of @Charlie charlie:) Are Dogs That Are Fed from a Raised Bowl at an Increased Risk of Gastric Dilation Volvulus Compared with Floor-Fed Dogs? | Buckley | Veterinary Evidence

    Conditioned stimulus

If you are training others you ARE working in a professional capacity and SHOULD have a clear understanding of learning theories. Part of the problem in dog training is unqualified/untrained people advising/teaching others and their dogs. Although my first love us puppy training I spend much of...

Dog Ramp - Type and where to store it in the car.

This is the ramp I use with Juno, and told and place on the back seat of the car - all ramps take up room in the car unfortunately.Found it nice and sturdy and been in use for over 3 years now...

First serious signs of resourcce guarding:the bone growl

My advice in general when it comes to bones if there is a problem is simply not to give bones. It solves all problems around management.

    A bit weird!

Lots of things can impact behaviour @Jennifer Jennifer and very little is coincidental. Fingers crossed that it all settles in the next week ?

    A bit weird!

This could be diet related, even if food hasn't been changed recently, if it's only after Scott's poo'd.

    A bit weird!

Oh no, Jen! I thought we were out of the woods with the interesting bum :( . It could be that there is an infection which hadn't cleared 100% hence Scout's new interest in Scott's bum. Or as @Beanwood says perhaps there is another low level infection - ears are a good bet, which is causing the...

Can they really recognise other breeds ?

No I think you're spot on. Different breed characteristics can make it more difficult to read what a dog is saying. I find brachys and short/no tail the most difficult so French Bulldogs are an interesting challenge sometimes for assessment.

    What is 'Under control'?

Always worth an email to clarify the position. If digs have to be on lead I think it's meant to be signed as such and there could be a difference between the park and the priory grounds.

    Clever Dog - Sarah Whitehead

Only difference today is that you can submit assessments by email :) . I'm better with a course that's 'paper based' rather than online - as long as I can do assignments and email. I'm not a lover if reading everything on screen or having to print it all off to read which isn't always practical...
