The Ballad of Maja and Carbón

Mother dogs correct their pups until they’re independent, in that very specific context. This is not the same as dogs being responsible for other dogs in their space. Similar to humans, it would inappropriate to expect people to discipline children that were nothing to do with them - it’s up to...

The Ballad of Maja and Carbón

I disagree with this. It’s not our dog’s job to train other dogs. We’re the guardians who control their spaces, so I think it’s very much our responsibility to - as far as possible - set everyone up for success, or at least to keep everyone safe and unmolested.

The Ballad of Maja and Carbón

So - I sympathise very hard with you on this. We have ongoing but improving cohabiting challenges, not the same but I feel your concerns and they’re completely valid. My one big reflection is that you will find a groove - whatever needs to happen, if you need Maja to accompany you on trips to...

    Bee sting

I think the biggest risk is in sensitive areas like soft tissue and moist areas (eurgh!) such as mouth, throat and eyes - in those places, swelling and irritation can cause severe complications like closing airways so need prompt action.

    Bee sting

Poor Hunter! I'd keep an eye on it, but if it's not bothering him it should be fine. If it's swollen you can put a cold pack on it?

    Anxiety medication

This is awesome @SteffiS , I’m absolutely certain this is down to you and your efforts in helping Toffee manage his big feelings. You clearly are reading him so well, and he’s responding likewise. Hip hip hooray! Also WHAT a handsome boy he is :inlove:

    What made you smile today?

Probably, height-wise. Stilton has stabilized (we hope) at small giraffe size, but has definitely got muscle to put on - he’s still brilliantly slimline and teenagerey at around 15 months, I’m thinking his rump and chest will certainly fill out a bit.

    Flicka

This is fantastic progress @Jelinga !! Really really well done to you and Flicka, I know how frustrating it is when you want to be doing the ‘normal’ things and have to take baby steps, but this is really brilliant. It sounds like you’ve got a good friend with their secure garden too, that’s so...

    Anxiety medication

Could he have had a very full stress bucket, for whatever (probably multiple) reasons? So now you’ve had some lovely quiet decompression time, he’s much more able to manage more difficult situations like snarly GSDs - I guess close monitoring of trigger stacking and doing targeted decompression...
