    Poppy Much Subdued

Yes she seems much perkier, thanks. Even managed a bit of training this morning to keep a bored dog amused. We did a bit of "Round behind". In other words she recalls then goes round behind me and sits on my left side. Very endearing!

    Poppy Much Subdued

No improvement to my wallet! £100 for 10 minutes, a jab and a small pot of metacam. Vet bills seem to have ballooned. On the upside he said Pops was incredibly fit.

    Poppy Much Subdued

Here is this morning's update from Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty is showing some improvement in her condition this morning. She is able to hold her tail at half mast and gently wag the bottom half of it. It is expected that she will continue to improve as long as she doesn't go to play with...

Wow! No good with names though.

    Poppy Much Subdued

Just got back from the vet. I noticed this afternoon that Poppy was trying to sit in front of me but just doing a bob then standing up again. Strained tail, the vet thinks. Gave her a a jab to get her more comfortable quickly and then metacam for a week. I'm pretty sure she did it yesterday...

Here's Poppy earlier outside my office (AKA the spare bedroom).

    Poppy Much Subdued

It might be just the hot weather, but this morning no waggy tail greeting, in fact no waggy tail at all. She ate her usual breakfast and we walked earlier than usual because of the already very warm day at 07:00. She was very subdued. About half way round Pops dived into a muddy pool and then...

    Best advice re puppies

Definitely give some priority to recall. One day you will need it urgently to keep him out of trouble.

    Away

I've just been reading a nice article by Neil Oliver in the Scottish section of today's Sunday Times. He and his wife have two Irish wolfhounds and they have sent them away for a couple of days while some work is being done on the house. He describes the strangeness of the situation so well...

    Poppy Update - 7/6/22

Yes you are absolutely correct they are considered an aversive and I wouldn't actually advocate using one. When I was really struggling with Poppy when we first got her and she was just pulling like a train everywhere a number of dog walking people said use a figure-of-eight lead and it will...

    Poppy Update - 7/6/22

Noted. I don't think we saw that as much of a problem anyway just different. Sometimes she even stands on her back legs scenting the air if there is something really interesting around like a fox near our garden. :giggl: I'd take it all with a pinch of salt. I tend to go for a rosier...

    Poppy Update - 7/6/22

Wow! It's been nearly a month since our last training session. We were meant to be training tomorrow with a group but all sorts of things have worked against being able to spend any meaningful training time with Poppy. We were away for 3 days on business, followed almost immediately by a...

    Baby Sitting Nina - Cockapoo

Well late last night my son and his family arrived back from their holiday in France and called in to pick up little Nina. What a journey! They allowed plenty of time, fortunately. The queued for 3 1/2 hours at Calais to get through passport control and then made it to the ferry at the last...

    Baby Sitting Nina - Cockapoo

It's also been a learning curve. Neither of us have had to look after more than one dog, but as you multiple dog owners will already know, it's a different game with a pair. I tend to look on Poppy as a pseudo human to a certain extent - I know, I know, please don't start! With the...

    Baby Sitting Nina - Cockapoo

They have sorted themselves out and seem to be rubbing along fine now. Just the occasional madness. Last night we took a chance and let them sleep together. Absolutely fine with both of them in Poppy's bed. The morning walk is actually quite fun. I'm getting used to two dogs on leads. The trick...

    Baby Sitting Nina - Cockapoo

I think owners of spaniels must be superhuman! We've got our son's Cockapoo, Nina, for a week while he and his family holiday in France until next Sunday. We've only had her for a day and we (including Poppy) are exhausted. She's a lovely dog but never stops. Pops played with her lots but...

    Poppy Update - 12/5/22

Yes I've been trying to transition to a "trust me there's one there". So far no go. No probs if she knows there is a dummy.

    Poppy Update - 12/5/22

Slowly at the moment, Cath. We've been away all last week on holiday in Cornwall and the training opportunities were pretty much non-existent. The week before that we were running a track day and Poppy was in kennels. She takes a couple of days to calm down after that and training is a bit...

Living with Poppy - Holiday Notes

Koi I'd remembered our friends dogs incorrectly. They had two boxers but one died about 18 months ago and they replaced her with a lovely springer-beagle cross now 1 year old called Purdey. Poppy has met them before just the once but she obviously remembered them because she went straight for...
