    Leaving pup alone

Thank you for this @Joy - I will give it a try. I did have a tiny amount of success yesterday when I managed to stay in my office (off the kitchen) while she was in her pen in the kitchen for a little while. I will try the unconfined approach as well. I have been walking backwards and forwards...

    Leaving pup alone

We are having problems leaving Cassie alone. It’s partly of our own making as it was so difficult to get her to sleep during the day that we ended up sitting very quietly near her as if we moved she woke up. I just searched the forum for advice and found this quote from @Jen which sums up how we...

    Treat delivery

Thanks Kate. I tried this and as you say it does work really well to get her to take the treat gently. I will keep practising this in the hope it will cross over into taking treats for training. We do have a Touch behaviour but I haven’t tried it with more than my right hand facing her. I will...

    Treat delivery

Cassie snatches at treats used for reward. This results in my fingers getting caught on her super sharp teeth. I have trained a gentle treat delivery with a closed fist which only opens when she pulls back but this isn’t useful for treating on the go when practicing loose lead walking etc. I...

    Snowie

I would echo @Emily_Babbelhund’s thoughts. I also used to think that my previous dog’s life would have been better if we had another dog or children around…..and I sometimes think that for Cassie. As @Emily_Babbelhund said, we are our own harshest critics. The upside of a small household is...

    One training thing

We also use Touch to interrupt impending zoomies. Scatter also works very well once zoomies have started.

    Nail trimming

Thanks @Natalie. That thread is very useful. I think I need to come up with a clear plan (Dremel vs clippers, location/position and a step by step protocol). Looking at all the threads, it does seem to come down to a large extent to the dog in question. My previous dog hated having her claws cut...

    Nail trimming

I would love to do this but I suspect that Cassie won’t be quite as obliging as Flicka sadly. But who knows….we will try later today…just got back from a training walk followed by a serious case of the zoomies so will wait a while before trying. She is currently moving around the kitchen...

    Nail trimming

Could Cassie please tell Cassie2 how to trim her own nails? 😀 It would be soooo much easier!

    Nail trimming

Thank you all for the replies. Yes, this is my concern - that I’ll spend weeks trying and get nowhere while her claws continue to grow. Thanks for the tip. I will try very small slivers. And stop before I think I should! And we will get some styptic powder first! I’ve never had my nails...

    Nail trimming

I just found an old thread re nail trimming. Will try a dremel (OH has one). Might need to just cut them first though!

    Nail trimming

A friend came around to visit today and Cassie jumped up mercilessly scratching him badly on his arm in the process. So we are embarking on a no-jumping training strategy urgently. I also need to cut her claws - has anyone tried and been successful with a slow c&t desensitisation protocol to...

    Hello again

So sorry to hear about Monty. While I only joined the forum a few days ago, I have been following the forum since it started and would like to say a big thank you to you and Monty for helping us through Holly’s elbow issues - your posts were so reassuring and helpful to us (We lost Holly last...

    Tess in Somerset

Congratulations! I do love that feeling where it’s possible to get very frustrated by a failure and then work out what went wrong and how to fix it. From despair to optimism in a very short time!

Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Thank you so much for the video and tips @Joy. It’s great to know that it worked with Rajah who pulled to start with. I will follow your points about varying click rate, and changing speed/direction as well. ❤️

Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Thank you - it’s good to get an independent view. I am also hopeful that the walking sideways will correct itself.

Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Yes, I agree….need to take it slowly. So far, we are trying to drive her to an off lead walk and just practice LLW on a short 10 minute walk where she gets her lunch kibble allowance. My original plan was to train LLW on the collar and use the harness for anything new where she is likely to pull...

Walking sideways and jumping when LLW

Thank you all. @Joy - the videos would be very useful, thank you. We do some GoSniff stops along the way. I might also try and vary the speed, I usually walk quite fast so maybe it would make it more interesting if we changed speed occasionally.
