    Harringtons Pet food

Holly's been on Harringtons for a few years now. It seems to agree with her so we see no reason to change.

    Sheep and other livestock

Holly's been socialised around livestock and horses, often sees deer, boar, squirrels and other animals. She ignores everything except a few select dogs and people with food. I still wouldn't let her off lead around livestock because of the possibility of misunderstanding with the farmer...

    Holly's Walks

The Kindle process is driving me nuts. I've finally got to the point where Wye Valley and Forest of Dean books are ready to be released onto Kindle. It's taken a lot of effort, more than I'd expected. The last stage of the process is to preview the books using the Kindle Previewer tool. If...

She'll be there somewhere. Look in the river or any muddy areas!

    Holly's Walks

Amazon's pricing and royalty scheme for ebooks is not straightforward. They have two royalty rates, 35% and 70%. At the higher royalty rate they deduct a download fee every Mbit of the book. They then take VAT off what remains, and the pennies left over are royalties. About 97% of my book...

E-books - what format do people prefer?

It's not really about paper vs ebook but which format of ebook is the most popular.

E-books - what format do people prefer?

Ive tried using Calbre and its producing error messages saying that the input document is incompatible. Knowing your IT expertise, this is what I've done so far. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The source book is written in LaTeX and generates a PDF. This is a preferred format for...

E-books - what format do people prefer?

Epub is an attempt to make an open standard for e-publishing to break Kindle's monopoly. Google books and Apple books use it, among others. Nice to know. I'll get started on them. With another lockdown coming in Wales there's not much else to do!

E-books - what format do people prefer?

I'm trying to create ebook versions of the 'Holly's Walks' books for Amazon. I can convert them to KPF files for Kindle very easily, but they don't seem to want to convert to Epub. There is a work-around but it will take a lot of effort. Before I go any further - do people want an Epub...

    Holly's Walks

Everything sailed through the review stage. The only minor glitch was that I needed to increase the spine thickness because of the extra pages. The book should now appear on Amazon Holly's Walks: Walks for dogs (and people) in the Wye Valley: Amazon.co.uk: Charlesworth, Philip: 9798550952283...

    Holly's Walks

The new Wye Valley book has now been uploaded for review. All being well it should pass review and be on sale by the end of the week. With this in mind I‘ve taken the old version down. It will still appear on Amazon but will have the status ‘unavailable’. Apparently if I delete the book it...

    Holly's Walks

Proof reading finished. Now to update the cover. I've just had a look at the monthly sales figures. Unsurprisingly they plummeted with the March lockdown and went to zero in April. They've not made double figures since February which is a big drop compared to 2019. No royalties means no more...

    Holly's Walks

About five minutes ago I finished the first draft of the updates to the Wye Valley book. Covid Lockdowns completely messed up the timetable, but Holly and I have finally finished all the revisions. We've dropped one walk - Loysey Woods - as the forest has been massacred by logging and is no...

    Calendar anyone?.........upload your pics here!

Oooh yes, we'll definitely have another calendar! After last year's muddy picture of Holly I thought I'd send clean ones this year. People may not recognize her without the mud, but these really are pictures of Holly :)

    1st time Labrador Puppy

Welcome from Holly and me. Luna looks lovely! Luna has a lot of changes to cope with, having been taken away from her familiar environment and placed in a whole new situation. Crying is her response to these unfamiliar surroundings, and your wishing to comfort her is only natural. At this...

This one's showing no sign of moving so I guess time for the vet to have a go.

    Holly's Annual Checkup

Holly's just had her annual checkup. She appears to be in good shape, and has lost a bit of weight (down to 26kg). Her perfect weight is about 27kg so we'll increasing her food slightly to arrest the weight loss. I can't see her objecting to slightly more food! The only minor issue is a skin...
