The Kennel Club - no hoomans allowed!

Mum made breddanbuttapoodin. With kustad. I love breddanbuttapoodin. Yum. Got to try to lick those plates now.

    A quick hello!

Welcome! From me and my big yellow boy Pongo in south Wales. He is five years old now but I remember the puppy days soooo well - I admit there were a few times I thought "what have I done" (mainly when he was hanging off my jeans by his sharp little teeth, or going nuts during the madness hour...

The Kennel Club - no hoomans allowed!

Hey Maxx, that's good news - it means your mum is going through a trayninfaze. It's like a guessing game, you have to do lots of stupid things and figure out which one gets you a treat. But....here's the thing....you got to spin it out. When you've figured it out, don't immediately do it...

    Why is my labrador aggressive?

Welcome @donnylafave ! So sorry to hear about Lucky's issues - that must be difficult. Again, my first thought would be whether he has some pain somewhere - so checking with a vet would be a great idea. At least you could rule that out! Snowbunny has given some great advice. Please let us...

Oh Nelly, I met Carbon and I think he is fab! But you are lucky that you've got your own blackthing to play with.

Yes, Pongo does this a lot! His cheeks puff out.

    Dreaming

Pongo has a very active dream life - running, barking, sniffing, chewing and swallowing.... I let him sleep through it. Especially when he's chewing, I don't think he'd ever forgive me if I woke him up in the middle of a dream of food...

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

If it's done the same as ours, then you will be asked to bring along two small Tupperware boxes (pocket sized). Each time the dog works, he does two searches. At the end of the first search, the reward is a small amount of VERY HIGH VALUE treat in one box; at the end of the second search the...

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

@Charlie The trainers I went with have a facebook page where they post photos of every session. There is always a special category for the "outtakes"....the noteworthy tree-wraps, tangles and face-plants. I fully expect to feature heavily in those.

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

Ha! I didn't mean no risk to the hooman! Actually that is going to be Pongo's (I mean, my) greatest challenge - he wants to lunge off at top speed. But he did seem to settle quite quickly into a gallop rather than a full dash..... no doubt because while his nose is really working he can't go...

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

The other nice thing about it is that dogs go at their own pace, so no risk of injury or strain - and even seniors who can't quite take agility or flyball anymore can still do it. As long as their hoomans can keep up!

    Finally another Convert

Well done you - and actually that is INCREDIBLY impressive from your friend. It takes a very special person to listen to a different point of view, try it out and then admit that they were wrong / misinformed before. Result!

@Boogie If you find their facebook page you'll also find loads of photos (including some of the Pongster yesterday).

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

Yes, very like hide and seek. The main thing is that the dog is not searching for somebody they know, but someone else whose scent they've been specifically asked to find. There is also a bit of finesse in that the dog is on a (very long) lead, so the hooman challenge is to keep that long lead...

    Mantrailing - Pongo's new game!

My session was by Mantrailing UK. They seem to run classes all over the place - their website is mantrailinguk.com I do think it's a great idea - something very natural for the dogs to do, working their brains as well as their bodies, and the hoomans are really just along for the ride...
