Second lab - wise or crazy?!

Today I put a deposit down on a second labrador! She is half sisters (same Dad) with my first labrador Betty who is nearly 5 and so it felt right. We were keen to have a friend for her. However I am now worrying - remembering back to the puppy stage and the first 9 months.... it was tough! We...

    Recall with other dog distraction!

Thank you @HAH I feel better knowing that I am not alone!!! I was thinking just now that I could take cheese on my walks and try that as she loves cheese but I stopped treating with anything other than kibble quite a while ago. Clearly the distraction is more rewarding than the kibble currently!

    Recall with other dog distraction!

Hello everyone Does anyone have any tips / advice for recalling a dog before it bolts off to see another dog or person walking? I feel like my recall with Betty (14 months) has always been pretty good if it is just the two of us however the sight of another dog or person is just too exciting...

    To spay or not

Thank you all - as you say @snowbunny it is the dramatic change/operation to her body that I am uneasy with. My husband is now saying that we should breed her and keep a couple of puppies at least🙈🤔

    He has changed so much

@kateincornwall I am a little late to read your post but really glad to read Reuben is doing well and bringing you so much joy! Betty is doing well too and at 1 year weighed 24kg. Like Reuben she still gets over excited and loves people and is affectionate. My recall is good unless there are...

    To spay or not

Hello everyone... I have been quiet for a while but all is well and Betty is a fully grown one year old! The question now is do we spay her and I am really battling with this decision. We do not intend to breed her and our vets recommend spaying. However I'm not sure! To me she is perfect as she...

Hi labrador friends, it has been a while since I have posted and I hope everyone is well. Betty is doing great - coming up for 6 months. Time flies! Perfect Fit Harness

Here she is! I expect the harness is a little big but I doubt it matters too much at this age. She has grown so much since that pic on the beanbag at 8 weeks!

    Perfect Fit Harness

Just an update on the perfect fit harness for anyone who finds this thread. I had to change the XS front for a S front as it was choking her when I pulled as, although the XS fits snuggly as it should, it sat too high. I now have medium girth, medium top and small front. This fits our 16 week...

Thank you @snowbunny for creating a new forum and thank you all for your reassurance and lots of advice. Great to know that all of this is normal as honestly friends that I have mentioned this to always look surprised, even the ones with labradors (maybe they have just forgotten!). Puppy...

    Snapping puppy!

Hi everyone, very excited here as Betty and I off to first puppy training class shortly! Please can I ask - this biting thing... is it normal for them to snap with their teeth at you if you do something they don't like? How do I train her out of this one? For example if she thinks I am going to...

    Dare we hope ?

Hi everyone, Happy New Year to you all! Any tips on training Betty to greet visitors nicely? A friend (who has met Betty half a dozen times) popped in today and Betty was being a pickle - jumping up then biting her hands and clothes almost instantly (after a quick excited wee on the floor!) -...

What is/was the worst time of day with your pup ?

@snowbunny I am glad you have warned me. I wasn't expecting to notice!!! @Jen she swallowed a cigarette butt on a walk the other day - I didn't get to it in time

Puppy food / mealtimes / treats

Thank you everyone. I found a sample bag of europa kibble that is bigger than her normal kibble and very fishy! I will try using that and cut down a bit on the other kibble. I'll leave the cheese for when training a new skill! x
