1st time Labrador Puppy

Hi

Beautiful Luna joined our family on Saturday. She is 10 weeks and full of beans.
She is doing so well with settling in, she has learnt to sit and doing well with the toilet training. Our problems in night time.

she won’t sleep or settle unless she is with us. We can’t risk her in our bed in case she wets. Im
Currently sleeping on the sofa and my son who is autistic won’t sleep without me is also on the sofa.

help!! I have been told to leave her to cry it out but I don’t feel comfortable with that and I doubt my
Neighbours will like it either

help

thanks

the picture is of her asleep on my shoulder with her butt in my face 😂3653EB80-71A2-4811-9A7B-E5229A525CA3.jpeg

Thank you. We have a crate which I was against but was advised to get one but it’s huge. I may try and fit it in.
She is such a good girl, I have been leaving her everyday for a little bit longer, today was a hour and I came home to toilet mess but that’s it. My neighbours had not heard her. We have put a gate on the stairs so she has free run of downstairs.

I think you are right. She will end up in our room. So I take puppy pads up? I have started turning lights off at night so she knows the difference. Managed to get her in her bed tonight. For how long I don’t know6DBFC2D5-FFD4-4A2F-A8D8-438A24678E8C.jpeg

As @Jacqui-S said but put a cardboard box next to the bed on the floor and dangle your hand in to have contact with the puppy, eventually you can move them downstairs into a crate, or in a crate in your room. However, I think you are lost as the little pup has already discovered the delights of snuggling up with you :) She looks adorable.

Hi @Alleeluna ! Excellent name ;) and isn't Luna a little sausage?!
Welcome to the Forum, you’ll find a world of willing advice and support here.
It’s early days with Luna, and sounds like you’re all doing great already. As @Jacqui-S and @Jelinga said, a crate will be a great space but may take a bit of building up to. In the early days she might do well in a high-sided box in your bedrooom next to your bed so she can hear you, and you can dangle your hand in if she’s squeaking (buys you a bit more sleep time!). Do you have any other pets? Is she your first pup? Whatever the set up, these early days can be intense but that’s why they’re so sweet!

Thanks for your replies. I also have a 1 year of cat called Alan who has the patience of a saint. I heard a the stories of the cats hiding for months but within 2 days they was sharing biscuits. She jumps all over him and loves trying to bite his tail and he just whacks her with his paw but never hurts her. I did say to him enjoy it while it lasts as she will be bigger than you soon 😂
It’s like having a newborn again and it’s so daunting. I have been feeding her the food the breeder gave her but she really isn’t fussed. The vet suggested mixing wet and dry food as she is on the little side so looking into what wet food for high meat content etc
She had her first jabs on Tuesday so a whole
Yet before she can go out. I have started today short car rides to get her used to it as we have so many days out planned with her.
i will get a box tomorrow and try it in my room. She is already awake and trying to get on the sofa but just put her back in her bed and she is biting it out of protest😂AB847FBB-410F-4512-99BF-3F2738F79886.jpeg62888C0B-B83A-423A-93CE-8D2323D899A1.jpegC57BF314-795C-48C7-97D6-11B22F2CD4DD.jpeg

Hello @Alleeluna and a warm welcome to our friendly forum from Joy (small black Lab, three years old) and me. I have also always put my pups' beds next to mine in the early days so that I can reach out to reassure them in the night. Eventually they have all moved away to their own space quite happily. Luna looks like a little sweetheart! Where do you live? It's good to hear from you!

Hi,

We are in Rainham in Kent. I think the next to bed solution definitely makes me feel more comfortable. I couldn’t handle her being distressed

Hi and welcome from me and Molly. Just to echo what the others have said - have a bed next to yours so you can speak and touch to reassure in the night. Molly is my third puppy and they all started next to me. It doesn't last long - might be a few days, might be a few weeks - but eventually they become confident enough to sleep alone. One other thing that helped with Molly was having a really big soft toy in her bed with her to help replace the feel of other puppy bodies.

You're in the right place - no-one on this forum will tell you to leave your puppy to cry.

Good morning and welcome to MLF from me and four year old black Cassie.
Lunar is adorably sweet, and beautifull colour.
I remember feeling like I had a newborn baby in those intense early weeks. As others have said it does pass, so keep coming here and we will get you through it!
Alan does indeed sound like a saint, what a star!

Welcome to the forum @Alleeluna, Luna is scrumptious! 😍

For my sins I have a puppy every year, Echo, GR, is the seventh pup I’ve raised for Guide Dogs.

I have tried all methods of night time soothing and I find a small puppy crate by my bed is best. I keep it there until they don’t need a wee in the night (usually two weeks ‘tho they are all different) then I slowly move it downstairs. I have a big crate downstairs which I make their happy place with lots of teddies etc and give all meals in it, leave the door open and often treat in there. When they are asleep in the day I pop them in but leave the door open so that they wake without feeling stuck in. All have ended up loving the crate. My own dog, black Lab Tatze, adores hers too.

Pups are hard work and go through many phases, all of which have their challenges. In about two weeks they turn into a crocapup - so enjoy the snuggles while you can, she’ll be chewing your ear off soon. 🤣

Echo is 14 months old and he is just about coming out of the teenage stage and is an absolute joy - full of beans too!

Baby Echo in his happy place -

Welcome to the forum - what a lovely human and animal family you have! And ask all the questions you want - we love questions. 😁

I'll defer to the others on the puppy advice as I've not had one for ages. My boy is Señor Carbón who hails from Spain and thinks of himself as a Spanish Gentleman dog who would have never piddled on my floor (though he totally did).

Looking forward to hearing more from you and Luna!
