A traumatic morning.

Thanks everyone. We had a peaceful night and a good sleep. Joy is very subdued still thismorning, no sign of her usual playfulness. She showed no interest in her breakfast kibble but did manage some chicken, carrot and sweet potato when hand fed it and was distinctly unimpressed when she found the antibiotics tucked inside, although she did eventually swallow them. I took her leotard off and she has been in the garden for a wee, a potter round and a lie in the snow  . When she came back in I put her dressing gown on her. She is more used to this than her leotard and it's equally effective at preventing her from licking her wound. The wound itself is big, about four inches long, but clean, dry and not hot to the touch. She's gone back up to her bedroom bed, so I shall leave her there in peace and check on her from time to time. She wags when she sees me, but really isn't herself. I don't think we'll even try a walk today unless she shows signs of wanting one. She needs to sleep, rest and recover from the shock as well as her injury, poor little GGJ.

Oh @Candy I've only just seen this and I'm so sorry that such a horrible thing happened to your lovely girl. I'm glad you've had a good night and hope she gradually seems brighter as the day goes on. x

Bless her heart xx It will take a little time for the GA to leave her body , so her behaviour is quite normal but of course she has had the added trauma of the attack . Unless she indicates otherwise , I would let her be today without a walk , slowly slowly wins the race . But how are you doing Candy ? xx
I'm OK, although I'll be happier when she's more like herself again. The house is far too quiet and I seem to have too much time on my hands as usually most of the morning is taken up with our walk.
I keep going over what happened yesterday and I realise now that the dog owner probably did the best thing in walking away , as if he had stayed there would have been no way for him to prevent his dog attacking Joy again which just doesn't bear thinking about. I just can't think what there could possibly be about my sweet, gentle and slightly timid (but very brave) little dog that would make another dog feel the need to go for her like that. She didn't even have a chance to growl back. The police officer who took my statement, when she got to the part about the impact of what happened on me, at one point asked very gently 'Did you at any stage think that Joy might die?' I answered that honestly it all happened so quickly there wasn't really time for that to cross my mind. That's stuck with me a bit though, the thought that it could have been so much worse, and the thought of running into them again really frightens me.
We both need a restful and soothing day, so I think I will cook Tarka dal, which is comforting both to cook and eat. Then I'll sort out the Fireinametalbox, light it and settle down either to watch a film, or to read 'Olive, Mabel and me' which my friend Fiona gave me for Christmas.

A duvet day is much needed today for both of you. I wouldn't walk GGJ today as she will still have the effects of the GA. Wrap up warm, cook, eat and cuddle which is the best thing. I hope you are okay Candy as the shock of such an awful attack prays on your mind. Please take care of yourself. xx   xxx

Our dear @Candy you both need time to recover from the shock. Be kind to yourself. I hope that GGJ will soon be back to her happy self.
Stay in a keep warm, it cold outside :hug:xx

My Meg(an) Sparkle is like this. She takes a dislike to a dog and that's that. There is a lovely, lollopy black lab, Ruby, at training and Meg hates her with a passion. Ruby is the most inoffensive little dog ever, but Meg has gone for poor Ruby in the past, I have to be on my toes at all times.

That's a good point, Sue. I have heard that some dogs dislike black Labs, so that could be it. However the difference is that you are on your toes all the time, whereas this man evidently wasn't and I would be very surprised if it was the first time this dog has attacked another, he looked like a pro to me. I blame the man, not the dog.
On a more cheerful note, a parcel has just been delivered and GGJ ran downstairs growling. Not her usual Doberman impersonation bark but another step in the right direction!

Definitely. He must be aware that his dog is potentially agressive, so why walk it off-lead?

You both need rest and distraction today, so snuggling up by the Fireinametalbox and reading Andrew Cotter’s book seems perfect!
