Another lump. Another op. It’s making me weepy.

Poor Snowie, Poor you, that must have been a huge worry.
In my very completely unprofessional opinion - I did think grass seed when I read your first post. The little Westie down the road gets grass seeds in his paws regularly.

Good to know its out now and healing will continue.

Phew! Wow those things are wicked. I’ve never heard of this before I joined the boards so maybe we don’t have the same type of grass here…at any rate glad he’s on the mend!

Snowie’s recovery is remarkable. He’s back to being a happy, youthful dog. When this all happened, I thought he’d suddenly aged. I was so upset, leading up to his 10th birthday and he suddenly looked old. He must’ve been feeling awful, in pain, uncomfortable, just because of a grass seed. Now that it’s out, he’s a different dog. Well, back his previous self. 🥰

He’s also allowed to swim. We just change the dressing each time and apply betadine. At first they said no swimming for two weeks! Well, the weather has been 35 C and he was desperate so I decided I’d just change the dressing each time. I called the vet to confirm that what I was doing was okay, and the vet on call said no, I must bring him in to get a new bandage (they bandaged it originally like Fort Knox!! Took forever to get that bandage off when it got wet). Thankfully later our vet phoned to say okay to swim. I think she must’ve realised in the terrible heat it was impossible to keep him out of the pool. I had tried wetting him with a watering can, but no amount of drenching could cool him off sufficiently to relax him.

Having worked at a vet, it looked more like grass seed than cancer
I wish I had your experience. I always think the worst!

It’s not a grass seed from lawn. It’s from long grasses. They look like wheat. It grows on the verges mostly. Weeds. They should be mowed more regularly.

But that is a seriously nasty looking "seed". Yikes! 😳
Wow though, what a horrid looking grass seed!
I was actually surprised how small it was!! I’ve seen much bigger!!

Yay! Im glad it was something so easily fixed.
Yes!! But can’t believe the first (young, new) vet didn’t try to investigate it further. It was such a small lump when I took him in. I’m surprised she didn’t pursue it given it was grass seed season. Experience I guess… 🙁

I should’ve also looked more carefully. I immediately worried it was cancer, like his mother. Although I have subsequently learned she died of liver and pancreatic cancer, and that the toe lump had cancer cells show up in a smear, but wasn’t the primary cancer.
