Bear's tummy troubles

I should also add, as maybe it's related, Bear doesn't smell great. He has a glossy thick coat, but it's a bit pongy, sort of like sour milk or strong cheese. Just quite musky, whereas Monty smells lovely. .
He's not itchy but will often jump around to bite a patch on his rear legs (it's not fleas). This would also be a potential food intolerance issue, I think?
Diet. Our first Lab was like this. We switched to a home cooked diet (mix of cooked and raw). Problem solved. Not sure exactly what the problem was but it was something to do with commercial kibble.

I'm hoping this will be the same for Bear. Don't suppose you remember how long it took for the smell to change / disappear?

Dog! Diet is such a minefield for dogs who have sensitive stomachs. We knew fairly early Meg couldn't eat beef....we were giving cooked beef as treats & tinned food containing "meat". Switched the wet food to salmon & potato and duck & rice (same as the kibble). Stopped the treats - bum better. Re-added the beef treats - bum loose. So switched her to chicken treats. Seemed OK, for many months. Lately bum became loose again. Switched chicken treats to turkey (but limited quantity) - bum fine. Chicken MIGHT be OK - it MIGHT be down to quantity (or stress), but anyone who's had this type of trouble will understand I'm reluctant to re-add chicken. For now.

All this loose bum was in parallel to vomiting - which turned out to be something different!

Plus Pets at Home have stopped doing Duck & Rice wet food - agggh!! We switched to turkey & rice. No loose bum. Phew!

If and when the time comes to add calcium, you don’t need strange supplements with dodgy ingredients. I use either Now brand calcium citrate, which is very easily digested or, when I can’t get that like now with Covid, I grind egg shells to a powder and add that to their food.

I'm probably going to look at the eggshells if I continue this - I used this one for Monty - although it's recently been re-branded as Beef Bones, my tub from last year is called 'meat and bone meal' - probably due to people asking what's in it! It was fine for Monts with his rock hard digestion, but not so suitable now.

Today has been good - more good poos, no wind, and oddly, a generally calm dog this morning considering he didn't get a walk first thing, but 15 mins training in the garden with Monty. I don't think he gets anywhere near enough sleep, he's mostly a cat napper but this morning he seemed more settled for longer.
