Bed time change

Thus far , Reuben has slept on the bed , which on the whole has been fine once we got past the flinging around of undies ! He would stay on the bed , not moving if a human loo break was needed in the night but for the past two night , if I get up to the loo , he gets off the bed , heads for the sitting room and clambers onto the sofa . So far , I have called him back to bed, mainly because we haven't yet de Reubened the sitting room ! It is ironic , so many similarities as Sam suddenly decided at around this age, that he wanted to be a grown up boy and sleep on the sofa on his own but Sam wasn't into getting things ! So this evening , I will make sure that anything he might have a penchant for is removed , and if he heads for the sitting room again , so be it xx

Homer was in the kitchen, at first in his crate and then in his bed with kitchen door shut for his first two years before making it quite clear to us that he wanted to choose where to sleep. After him being on the bed with us and me with no duvet we got him his own bed next to ours but he still likes to choose, he'll sometimes go to his open crate in the kitchen, double bed in spare room, the single bed in my study, the hall carpet, on our bed or his bed next to ours, during the day he has the living room sofas too.

If any of these doors are closed, if we have visitors, sure as sure that's where he'll insist on going to sleep even if he hasn't slept there for weeks. The living room door has always been closed last thing at night and when he's alone in the house. It's the only door in the house apart from the front door he'll accept as being closed.

I head somewhere that a dog feels more secure if they have their own bed and knows where they should sleep but I'm not so sure. I think that's a bit more about setting boundaries, keeping dogs in their place.

I think whatever works best for a good night sleep for all is the best option.

Pepper was a nightmare and never took to his crate. Eventually we gave up and let him sleep on our bed so we all got a good sleep. He slept on our bed until he was about 8 months old, then he decided he liked the floor in the bedroom on his blanket. He did have his own bed, but that’s hidden away now as he spent more time eating it than sleeping in it. He now sleeps through till about 7am on the floor and then jumps up on the bed for tummy tickles and then snoozes away for an another hour in between us.

I think I might start by putting his bed in the bedroom tonight and see what happens . It has truly been a horrible day today , Reuben bolted in the woods when frightened by chainsaws and woodsmens dogs , then Nelly at the Vets and I just haven't got the energy to de clutter the sitting room tonight . Cant even have a glass of wine because of the antibiotics and my earache has just started getting bad again , my fault, no hat on in the garden . Feeling very sorry for myself , so I`m off to bed soon and leave the dogs to Paul ! xx

Hello! How miserable, helicopters do resonate don’t they? Apparently there are loads of roads shut, like the A30. Is Reuben enjoying the snow?! I think Labradors do look particularly at home. Kipper’s having a ball :D
