Beds and Ramps for Hattie

I'm not sure where I am with raised beds. I bought one nearly 2 years ago, a cheap Bunty one, very happy with the quality. Monty will absolutely not step on the mesh, so it has to have a cover over, it defeating the object of keeping him cool on warm days. Heigh ho.
But recently, he seems to sometimes get stuck on it, almost like we might when we sit right into the back of a soft squishy sofa. I can't work out how much of this is his surface phobia, if the runners on the wood move a bit he simply won't step off the bed into the hard floor. But part of me thinks the bed has given a bit making it hard for him to push himself up out of the bed. He's got bad hips and elbows so I do want to protect him.... on the other hand he will leap out of the bed if there's a gravy bone in the offing. Who knows if this is physical or psychological.

I have the exact same beds with vet bed on top for Hattie & Charlie that they both sleep happily on and have done for over 3 years but the vet advised that a raised bed is not good for her so suggested I get Hattie a memory foam now that she has arthritis. What to do for the best it's bloomin' nightmare. x

This, absolutely. I thought a raised bed would literally raise his joints off the ground, prevent friction or them getting cold and stiff. Now I'm not so sure that a firm memory foam bed wouldn't be better. Saying that, he spends all night on our bed anyway, followed by evenings on the sofa so maybe I should just make sure our home furnishings are nice and comfy 😁

For Ginny, there is no doubt she prefers a firm bed. They will all lay on the raised beds for stationing when training, or when we’re outside in the sun, but inside, they very rarely use the one raised bed there is indoors. Ginny absolutely never goes on it; if there is no space downstairs, she will either lay down on the hard floor, or will take herself upstairs to the memory foam beds.
I recently bought a basket bed for them to try out (plastic shell with a padded cushion) and she doesn’t go in it, but the twins love it. It seems the firmer, the better for her.

Exactly. I looked on the Kurunda website for raised beds and they claim exactly this which is why I thought I was doing the right thing. Maybe a little bit of overthinking is going on here! Charlie is currently snoring on a raised bed topped with a feather duvet and certainly has no intentions of moving!! xx:sleepy:
