Breeders

Don't tell OH :sealedlips: but I've been googling Labrador breeders in Perth through the WA Canine Association website.

Every sensible part of my brain tells me not to look and tells me I'm being selfish. But, Ella has stolen such a huge part of my heart amf I can't help but think adding a puppy would enrich her life and also provide the (selfish - I know) crossover so that I'm not left in a state of lablessness in the future.

Am I crazy and selfish? Is this reasonable? Help!

Very wise to have a crossover, we always do. When my darling Gavin was getting older I knew we'd never have another dog if he passed away, I adored him so much

So along came puppy Tatze! It was the best move ever. Gavin was amazing with the pup and taught her everything she knows. 🐾🙂

I didn't tell my oh that I contacted a breeder for Odin....:sealedlips:..I told one of our sons whatI had done....He was very positive and after I got an email from the breeder that we were invited for an acquaintance I had to tell him. At first hé was reluctant but wanted to meet them anyway. We were not sure if we really wanted to go ahead and get another pup. We were also quite frank with the breeder in this. She said she understood and we had time to think about it for the dog concerned was not in pregnant yet, and not in heat. That gave us time to get used to the idea of a new pup

So Ella is coming up to 10 years old? If you are seriously thinking about getting a puppy, I would advise doing it sooner rather than later, as a puppy can be very hard on an old dog. I did it with an old dog, and very much regretted it; I sometimes thought I had ruined his last year of life. 10 years is still ok though if she is healthy. And a puppy certainly gains from having an older, sensible dog around - it makes training so much easier!

I second this!! Finn is getting old and is 11,5 years old. He is struggling with his health. He wants to play but can't do it the way he wants. I also think what have I done to him....on the other side he likes him very much already. Odin is very thoughtful and caring towards Finn
