Can’t catch a break

We got the results of the biopsy on Quinn’s intestines and I don’t really understand everything, but it seems they think she may have an overactive immune response to inflammation and this infection could happen again. They are saying it’s possible inflammatory bowel disease and we have to go in to talk to the surgeon and internal medicine expert about management. This could mean a hypo diet and some sort of ongoing monitoring, such ultrasounds on a regular basis ☹ Now we are extra freaked out.

I’ve read that biopsy is the main route, but I think they only tested the abnormal section so not sure if that skews the result. We have way more questions than answers, which is why we have a meeting set up. At first they said all we could do is watch for symptoms again and I said that’s not acceptable to us, because that means waiting for acute pain and more surgeries down the line....

@Ashley I’m sorry, it’s these big question marks that are so stressful isn’t it? Hopefully when you go and talk to them you’ll be able to find out more and it’ll become clearer - as @Leanne says, hopefully there are more tests they can do to rule out other possible causes and at least give some certainty. I guess there’s all sorts of reasons for an overactive immune response, so hopefully they can be a bit clearer on that. I’m so sorry you’re still in this limbo :(

Sorry for all the stress this is causing for you.
I think it's important you speak to the specialist who knows all the results of tests that have been done, and have Quinn's full story.
Speculating on the what-if's will just do your head in.

What's important is that Quinn is doing well now. You don't know for sure that it will happen again, but several forum dogs have had colitis problems and although can be a pain, are well manageable. It might not be what you want, but they are manageable with diet and meds.
Anne and Kate have nailed it with the writing everything down bit, I would really recommend you do that.

As a little aside, colitis in humans is now measured with a stool sample measuring something called "faecal calprotectin". Biopsies aren't always that sensitive - if you don't biopsy the right bits they show up as normal.

I really hope you get the answers you need x

Could they maybe have a look what’s going on with a camera? It’s a less invasive procedure than surgery and could be something to ask about.

So sorry for you all - sending lots of love x
