Can’t catch a break

Great news...the bacteria that was found was a very mild strain so the regular antibiotics would have taken care of it (and the heavy duty one she went on was not even necessary). Her drain fluid is down and the drain is getting removed this afternoon. She is being moved onto oral medications later today instead of the IV. She is eating and drinking well. We have to decide if we want to take her home tonight or have her temperature and transition monitored overnight. After all this, I am ultra cautious and want to leave her, but I have to get OH's opinion. The hospital is supportive of either decision. Cost isn't really playing into it at this point (6 nights at vet :eek::eek:).

That’s such good news @Ashley , I’m really pleased for you. Completely understand your reticence in bringing her home, I hope you and OH can come to a mutual decision and you get some relief from this positive progress whatever you decide xxx

Great news! The cost must be terrifying!

Someone I know here had to have her dog stay four nights in a local vet hospital last week as he was diagnosed with acute life-threatening pancreatitis. Total bill? €500!!!! Just incredible! She was expecting it to run into thousands. The massive benefit of pet insurance not being a "thing" here.

Yup, without having the final bill, this was quoted to be $8,800, plus the night at our local vet + tests was $1,500 and emergency visit last Sunday was $289. November was around $5,500. Can you imagine no insurance! (Rough conversion is £9,412 or €10,557!). We will still be paying several thousand, as we have to pay tax (13% and 10% of total cost as well as exam fees.

Mas’s bill was £2800 in the end 😳
