Cats!

Charlie only has to see a cat in the street and he goes bonkers barking, leaping around like a crazy, crazy possessed loon o_O Thomas is looking after a neighbours cat whilst they are on holiday so after he walked Charlie he stopped in on his way home to feed it, I thought OH NO really you took Charlie are you mad!:eek: but he said Charlie just stood and looked at it with not a bark, leap or lunge or wow that looks like fun to chase. Why is that? xx :)

Well, if Xena sees a cat in our garden/along the fenceline she goes bonkers, barking like an absolute loon. This is brand new behaviour - the neighbourhood has erupted in cats over the past couple of months and for some reason they're using my property as part of the feline super highway. If I open the door to let her chase them away (initially I thought it would deter them...it didn't) she runs out howling desperately. It's a nightmare.

BUT if we see a cat when we're out walking she's as cool as a cucumber. Sometimes she'll stiffen and just give it a stare, other times she'll walk past with only a little bit of stiffness. There's never any pulling on the lead or barking or lunging. So for Xena, "cats in the garden" are a different situation to "cats in the wild". Oh, and she lives with two cats. So go figure. Maybe it's similar for Charlie?

Alex chases my cats but he doesn't put the effort into it that does with rabbits. Amber and Poppy love and adore the cats. None of them are interested in cats when they are out walking though.

If it's in our garden whatever it is cat, rabbit, pheasant S&S will chase, anywhere else they aren't interested unless we have to pass the cat very close. First thing in a morning our lane looks like a scene from watership down. They hop along in front of us and we follow !!! The poor things have got mixy now though such a horrible disease. The two farm cats can be a nuisance. If they are coming up the drive or along the lane towards us they will lie down, roll about and then wait in the middle to see what we do. Sometimes we do retreat. Dogs mean nothing to them.:cat: I do wonder if they do the same to any dog walking down our lane. Murphy was funny with cats. If they ran he gave chase if not he wasn't bothered. We had one farm cat that used to go up to him and rub itself against his legs weaving in and out. Murphy would just stand there looking worried. He knew it wasn't right but wasn't sure what he should do. The cat would then come for a walk with us.
