Today whilst Grace was on a walk during the day a Badger came out of a hedgerow, Charlie went in after it and they had a fight. Much screaming from Charlie and the badger. Charlie grabbed it by the nose and dragged it, it went for Charlie then tried to run away but Charlie went after it. It was absolutely awful. The upshot is Charlie has a ripped ear, bites to his face one of which is a worry to the vet and a few superficial wounds to his leg and mouth. He was definitely in shock as Grace said he wouldn't walk, she coaxed him but he kept stopping, he was panting heavily and drooling. The house looked like a massacre had taken place.
I took him straight to the vet. They came to see him in the car as he was in no fit state to be taken in. The vet gave him an antibiotic and pain relieft shot but told me not to clean the ear wound as it's the blood that will hold it together. She dressed the ear around his head which won't stay on and I have cleaned up his nose and leg.
The vet will make a decision tomorrow morning if he needs surgery on his ear
We are all very shaken up. Also worried about the badger but nothing we can do. The vet said even a dog of Charlie's size is lucky to have made it out alive and that badgers seen in the day are more aggressive as maybe they are wounded.
I feel sick that this has happened and can't understand why? Is this going to have an affect on Charlie with dogs? Sorry I'm waffling and still shaking. xx
