Charlie in Badger Fight ;(;(

My word @Charlie this is a horrible freakish thing to happen, there must have been something very wrong with that badger. They have a fearsome bite with a serious grip.

I do hope Charlie has had a reasonably comfortable night and surgery can be avoided.:hug:

Just catching up, hells bells, that's a terrible incident. As others have said, badgers are fearsome and very strong animals with powerful front legs, big claws and strong jaws and teeth. Charlie could have been killed.

Have you heard of any badger culling in your area? I know its going on in some places and inevitably some badgers will be injured, not killed.

Very best wishes for poor Charlie, I hope he doesn't need surgery and can recover in the comfort of home. Hugs for you both, I'm not surprised you feel sick with shock and worry :hug:

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes. Charlie had a good night, has eaten breakfast but was very hesitant to go outside. I walked out into the yard without looking at him and he very slowly followed but came in quickly so I'm not sure if he even had a wee. His ear has stopped bleeding and I have been bathing the other wounds. Got my appointment at 9 am so I will update when I get back.

@FayRose I haven't heard of any culling but that's not to say it's not going on. Last year there were a lot of dead badgers on farmers land but I haven't seen any this year. The vet was equally shocked that he wasn't killed, as you say they are very strong and it was a big one. Those claws are jaws fearsome.

Thank you for your concern for Grace but she is fine but worried about Charlie.

Thank you all. xx

The vet said we will hold off on surgery to see if it heals on it's own. As ears are so difficult to stitch she feels this is the best course of action. His ear is very tender and painful but he was such a good boy during the examination. Lots of primula was consumed!! Continue bathing the other wounds a few times a day, keep his cone on and no walks until Friday as we don't want him to damage his ear any further. He is on 5 days of AB's and Metacam for pain. She wants to see him on Friday morning to see how he is but surgery is still on the cards and infection from badger bites/scratches is still a possibility :'( Charlie is subdued today and is still not going outside but he did go for a very quick wee, this is a worry for me, but as always slowly is the way to go. My poor boy honestly I really do think he has 9 lives. The vet knows him well, she told me they still talk about the near fatal stick incident  Lots of cuddles for my boy xx

Fairly good news so far then. Well done brave Charlie for being so good for the Vet. Squeezy cheese is magical stuff! I do hope he continues to make a good recovery and regains his confidence, poor boy. Hugs and Lambies on their way to you.:hug::hug::thelambiesarecoming::shaun::lambies::eatingsheep::thelambiesarecoming:

I had no idea badgers were so dangerous. Even more relief that he came out of it alive and with his eyes intact. What a scare. Hopefully he’ll not need surgery.
