Chatting to our dogs whilst out and about

Ditto all of the above, but I never hear anyone else doing it where I am.

I think it bonds you, after all you are out walking together. I often see people with their dogs sniffing on their own and the owners are on the phone and not 'with' the dogs at all, it's very sad as they are both missing out.

Also, I don't get embarrassed at all but I do wonder if people in their houses with their windows open wonder what the hell is going on when we go past. "Whatyadoingthen? Wherewegoinghey? Arewegoingtothestream? Shallwegofindwater?" Oh well, who cares.

Always talk to Vanilla, ask her what she has been doing, did she have a good sleep etc. Tell her about my day and plans for the weekend.
I will also depending on where we are ask her which way she wants to go. end of our street we can either go to the gold course turn right or round the block turn left. I will ask 'Block' or 'Golf course' and she will pick.

problem I have is that I will at time pretend to be Vanilla and respond to my own questions in a different tone....I am sure people think I am nuts...

@Jacqui-S it is normal. OH thinks I am nuts when I first started to have conversations with Vanilla. Now 2 years later OH is having conversations with Vanilla, but denies all knowledge when I mention it and say 'see she does listen'

We also do the same @Lab_adore. Hence why I think it is funny OH denies she talks to Vanilla on her own....not kooky at all

That's a great response, @kateincornwall ! :cwl:

I absolutely talk to my dogs and talked to Brogan even when he was deaf. I stopped for about a week when I realised how deaf he was, but it was so quiet and both of us were depressed. So I started back up and we were both happier again. Heck, I still talk to him and he's been gone for 3 years, albeit at home or on an empty beach and not when I'm walking down the street.

I'm a huge talker when training, so Carbon gets chattered at constantly. I'm already the only person I see here in Germany who puts a bandana on her dog as well as constantly luring him with treats, getting him to do stops and sits and turns, etc. so people already think I'm that 'eccentric old dog lady'. The talking just adds to the crazy and once you get to a certain level, who cares?

And yes, @snowbunny , I constantly ask questions. "Do you want to go potty?", "Do you want to go down that way?", "Is it time for dinner?", "Was that a good swim?". They answer, so why not ask? :D
