Choosing your Vet...

We are going to our vet for over 30 years. She lives in our neighborhood and has her practice here. A few years ago she took on another vet to run the practice together. I don’t like that one. She misses diagnoses in my opinion and doesn’t know us. She is not empathetic. We are not the only one who dislike her, our vet knows this! If I make an appointment it will always be with Petra, not the other one....

We have two vets. One in England which is a large Veterinary Group with branch around the area. You can book at any of them. They also have a 24 hour hospital. The other vets is in France, which is a small group of 3 vets. Two males and one female, which suits us because Fred only likes male vets. Annie loves everyone and runs into the vet. We have educated our French vet Christophe, to give them sausage treats before he begins.

Our vet in Hampshire was good. Great with Charlie letting him take everything at his own pace, treating him in the car and in the car park when he was worried about going inside. The fees have gone up a lot, too much. I have my niggles now as they didn't take my worries about Hattie seriously. Now she has been diagnosed with arthritis and a kidney problem that I banged on about for well over a year, this makes my angry and sad.

The vet we have in Scotland got down on the floor with Hattie, not really necessary as she loves everyone, but nevertheless I appreciated it. They are the only vet in town so their fees are expensive. One blood test for Hattie cost me £106.00. I resented being asked to go back for a blood pressure check when I had been in there a few days earlier, another £35. I will be taking Hattie back for repeat tests and annual jabs so another huge bill. It will be interesting to see what the annual jabs will cost. I know what I want from a vet and wouldn't accept anything I didn't feel comfortable with. xx

We chose the nearest. They are part of a big chain that have other practices neerby and the 24hour surgery hospital that’s close by too. Our first vet who did Homers puppy jabs was lovely but she left. We had two locums who weren’t that good but then we got Ruth who has been Homers vet for nearly 6 years now. Fees can feel expensive but I think in line with the industry and area.
