Collars

Xena wears her harness for all big walks or if I'm concerned about lunging, she hardly ever wears collars. I have a not very nice emergency collar in my walking bag (that's primarily in case I meet a loose dog with no collar), a plain red collar that I can put bandos on, and I bought her a nice new collar at the dog show that's WAY BRIGHTER THAN I REALISED, I'm sure it can be seen from space.

Shamas has a 1" brown leather collar for holding his tags. and I'm really excited to have found his canvas-and-chain Martingale again. I put his official tags on that one, and he wears it when walking with me. He walks beside me better on the Matingale than the harness, and is very responsive to the light movements on the leash, because he likes it loose as a necklace lol. Plus, I can slide it off for dog parks :)

This is the Martingale I use.-Shamas seems to relax on it, and is doing much better around stimuli.

We still use his Harness for walks where he's leading, or bush/tracking walks, places where I know he'll pull. So I gear him up with both on leaving the house in case we leave the paths or see oncoming dogs. I also have my two-ended lead, which lets me do a quick switch from collar to harness by simply clipping one end at his neck and one at his back/front clip

Someone mentioned buckle failure, and I have experienced this with Shamas-nearly resulting in him catching the neighbour's cat this spring. Neither of my current collars have buckles(unless you count belt-style buckles) I nearly bought the KONG collar, looking at the metal buckles...but decided on the leather instead

I bought a hand stitched leather collar with buckle for Lilly's 7th birthday. It's a dark red/maroon with a padded part in a dark cerise. I chose the colours. She hadn't made one in that combo before apparently.
I have a back up for the beach that I always forget to take and a couple other collars....a Disney one and a football one
It's always the leather one for us. It also has a collar tag that slides on. Doesn't dangle.

I know we are supposed to have collars to hold tags but , for Bear, I just can't bring myself to put one on him. He has always hated them and now that he is so old I see no point in making him uncomfortable. He is chipped anyway.
The other three only have one each so I am obviously the worst mum in the world.

I've not used collars for leash attachment for years, but it's where I stick the ID tag.

I love all the printed collars but I don't use them as it's too hard to make them work with all my bandanas. So for me plain collar and then a gazillion bandanas. I keep trying to quit as my original bandana purpose of making a 'scary' breed dog look friendly is now moot, but I just can't seem to stop. Other people's dogs look excellent with just a collar, but mine - foster or otherwise - just seem naked without a bandana!

I own it: I'm officially a bandana addict. :$

I love bandanas. But, as I’ve always got a pup, they are not practical - the pup would be constantly hanging off them.

It’s ages since I bought a new collar for Tatze, she’s got about ten. With every collar I buy a new dog tag so that I don’t have to keep swapping it :)

I LOVE A DOG IN A BANDO! I probably should just buy dozens of them, because they're cheaper than collars :D I, sadly, am not a fan of the harness+collar combo, so it's one at a time for me. If she had a nice, sensible black harness (and not a multicolour one) then I could do both, but she'd look like a toddler who dressed herself if I did both now :xmasspirit:

Yep, I get that. That's one reason Carbon has a boring black harness, so I can go crazy with the bandanas.

That's why Carbon didn't wear a bandana regularly until after Paul got adopted. Paul was a bandana eater/hanger.

I order my dog tags in quantity, then I can have several collars on the go . . daytime shop work, evening walks, swimming trips, visiting family . . .

Do hope Rourke's OK and back where he belongs soon. It's much too quiet without them, isn't it?xx
Yes, I missed him desperately and he was only away 6 hours. Sadly on the way to the vet, I came across a newly run over and killed Ginger cat, the man who had hit him was upset, but he couldn't avoid him. I told them at the vet and one of the girls went out to find the cat in case it was chipped, but couldn't. When I was on the way home from leaving Drift, I found the cat and called the nurse and she came out and collected the body. He was chipped and when I went back to collect Rourke the owner had asked me to phone him so that he could say thank you, which I did. Sadly the cat was barely a year old and the most affectionate cat they had ever had. Each time I will pass that spot in the future I shall feel so sad. I must admit to weeping over his death.

That's very sad. I hope it had all happened very quickly and the poor cat knew nothing. How kind of the owners to want to contact you.

How is Rourke? Have you had the results of the X-rays yet?
