Conversations with our dogs

Now that is me and Cassie so much of the time I find that more and more I talk to her as if she's really going to answer and /or express an opinion. Which of course she does non verbally! I already know that she watches me and draws her own conclusions as to what is going to happen next.
But yesterday I think I reached a new level by proffering a bunch of sweet peas under nose and saying to her "don't these smell divine sweetie", before realising the absurdity of what I had done!
She quite obviously didn't agree with me - I got what I can only describe as a withering look!

I talk to Joy all the time. I ask her what she thinks about things, and what she'd like to do next. She usually agrees with me!

When we were little, we used to quietly chuckle at my grandma when she said of her dachshund that “he understands every word that I say!”.
Now I do exactly the same, and it’s true - both Kipper and Stilton understand most things, Kipper understands pretty much everything but does have a humoring expression that says ‘yes yes, you’re whittering on about something beyond my comprehension but I’m listening all the same”

Oh goodness, yes., of course we chat. The only chatter they tend to ignore is when I ask them where the other one is, they clam up then and close ranks - no snitches in this house

I talk to Red a lot. Sometimes she’ll sit and cock her head from side to side so I know she is drinking in my wise and interesting words . Other times, she’ll look at me in a strange way and proceed to walk off somewhere else

Sometimes talking to our dogs gets a better response than talking to humans.

Chewie talks back. And I don't mean just barking. Little groans, grunts and squeaks. And when he's had enough of us silly hoomans a big huff and sigh.

They're such characters. Chewie also pulls this hilarious face when he's trying to tell us something (demand something really). He sort of lifts his top lip (but not enough to see any teeth) and puffs it out. It usually goes with little tippy tappies and a high pitched bark.
