Cooking for her

So I have been considering cooking for Chewie too, but am finding it really overwhelming and am worried about giving him a nutritional deficiency! And TBH with a baby on the way it might be difficult for us.

I came across these people: Lyka, in my reading and it all sounds quite appealing. Meets AAFCO guidelines, human grade meat, contains ground bone. I have emailed them to find out about the Ca:phosphate ratios and am considering ordering a trial box.

Does anyone have any more informed opinions than me on the subject?

@MrChew You might find it useful to join a local Facebook group that feeds their dogs in a way you’d like to feed them. You’ll then be able to learn about local suppliers. I belong to a local group who feed raw food to their dogs. The page admin is very informed, but she also has a couple of vets on the page who chip in. And a few people who have certificates in canine nutrition. All very helpful.

The most basic approach I take is to envision a whole prey diet, where the dog eats a whole animal—then I think about those proportions and try to feed similarly. I try not to worry, in the same way that I try to eat healthily myself but don’t worry that yesterday I ate tons of heavily salted (salt n vinegar flavour!) popcorn at work! But overall I eat very healthily. Hopefully, overall, Snowie gets a well-balanced diet, too.
