Hunter cannot jump in and out of the car so easily. So I need a ramp for the car as he is too big now for me to pick up. Bit of a stupid question.....where do you put the ramp after the dog gets in?
Hunter goes in the boot and my son in the back seat (sometimes 3 kids in the back as Hunter likes to watch them play football)
Any recommendations for a dog ramp as I also want a good quality one.

I was wondering if you could make either a tray for the base of your boot that raises it the couple of inches that would mean the ramp could slide underneath without taking up much space, or if you could fashion something that kept it against the side of the boot - either sturdy velcro straps, or a vertical partition that you just slide the ramp behind.

I didn't do so well with the whole ramp thing and ended up just teaching 'paws up' and doing a lot of bum lifting.

However, I wonder if you could fix something up with a bike rack if you didn't have space in the car for the ramp? Or could you not use the ramp if a rack was there? Ugh. I'm not very mechanical minded, if you can tell! :LOL:

@Loraseal, did you get a ramp in the end? And if you did, what did you go for? Our new Kippermobile is excellent in every way except height, so we’re getting a ramp and I’d love any recommendations :)

Unfortunately I did not get one. I just lift my wonderful 25 kg chocco slab into my boot. I have taught him paws so he puts his paws on the edge. I do have my eye on the Orvis retractable one but it is not in stock. I have a Peugeot 3008 now so I think i can strap it at the back of the boot as I have more room. What have you been looking at?

The Orvis one does look good. I’ve been working through this ‘top 10 dog ramps’ article which I’m sure you’ll have seen, and I’m most taken with reviews for the Solvit (#1) ramp - pricey, but seems stable and importantly not too tricky to use. I’ll let you know how we get on!

I bought a wooden one years ago, I got a bit lazy using it and lift monty out of the car now using his harness, but it's useful to have, I used to store it behind the front seats. OH has an estate car which is much lower and there's no need for a ramp.

This ramp is good for low level agilty, though, if you put a few books underneath the middle it raises it up into a small A frame.
This was useful to get Monty used to it, many minutes were spent coaxing him up onto it, and walking right along the length, and then at an angle balanced against the sofa😁Screenshot_20190319-214852.png

no, I've got one of the wooden ones ( photo just a bit further up this page in an earlier post) but because it only folds in half, I rarely use it - it's very durable (even after a winter outside) but quite clunky. If i were buying another I'd get one of the ones like Aldi are selling now, I think. You can stick strips of duct tape over the ridges if they feel a bit slippy.
