Doggy brags

My little Black & White girl just did 2 perfect retrieves to hand at dog school. We were in a circle, throwing the retrieve article into the middle. She was first to go and by far the best of the 7 dogs there tonight.
Coco is good at it, but OH was handling him & he's a bit hopeless. He forgets how to send him, he forgets to call him back, he forgets how to step in and take it before Coco drops it and tonight he'd left Coco's dummy in the car - it was pouring with rain so he just borrowed a ball-on-a-string from someone - not ideal, these are toys! Coco had done a perfect drop-on-recall though.

..and a little bit more Sparkle, 3 ladies came in with their Dogs and she went to each of then to scrounge a bit of food, and she didn't have a pop at any dog, she sniffed each one with interest, but no aggression.

That said, last week there were 2 new puppies there, a noisy German Shepherd and a lively but under control Cocker Spaniel. She was fine with the GSD, but really didn't like the Cocker, so I'm still super vigilant with her. They weren't here this week.

Meg - again she surprised me.

At Dog School last night, I sent he for her retrieve, but she fluffed it. I think I'd kept her waiting a bit too long and she got distracted and snuffled around the ground. Mia, a young (less than 12 months I think) German Shepherd barked. Meg stopped her sniff and ran over to Mia, who was now up on her back legs barking. I feared the worst from Meg, I shouted her as I started toward them, she was right in Mia's face but not reacting. I called her, she turned and came back to me
I picked up the dummy and we resumed. She did a perfect retrieve, even holding her pheasant properly.

She's getting better and better, and I love that she can be even a tiny bit more relaxed around people and Dogs.

I hate cutting Red’s nails as I am frightened of hurting her. I have to psych myself up for several days before I do them. F has to help me hold her - she is reasonably cooperative but never that keen on me doing them.

Today we said to her ‘Let’s go in the garden so we can cut your nails‘. She trotted outside and lay down on her back without us saying anything. I was able to cut her nails quickly - best experience ever. Bless her - she got some treats and lots of praise. What a girl ❤
