Dogs of the National Gallery

We just made it up. We both spotted the dogs in the first few paintings in the first room then that was it- our dog hunt began. By the end, cousin went round one side of the rooms and I went round the other scanning for dogs. Some looked like tree stumps though. i don’t have all the pics yet as we still need to consolidate them.

There were many different types, not any Labradors but then most of the paintings were more than 200 years old.
Lots of smaller companion dogs and then hunting or working dogs like spaniel Types. It would be interesting to do a more in depth study.
What a phenomenal way to spend an afternoon! I love seeing how breeds have changed over the years - like pugs with longer muzzles back in the 1700s. Fascinating.
