Double Trouble

"Hey, Shamas...Look at this. I found something"
"Oh really? Let me see. Oh Mom's brought home Treats again. Let me get that open for you."

"Shamas, Shamas.....help me pull the sheet off the couch."
"Ok, hang on I'll be right there"

"How do I get the stuff in this box? It smells yummy.."
"Oh you just nose here, under the lid. Then you can get to the food inside. Don't let Mom catch you-she gets mad if you're in the trash"20220809_194452.jpg

I can see this pair will be named Double Trouble as the time goes forward LOL!

We had a great weekend, as my hours lined up with not one, but TWO extensions of the pack.

Saturday, we say Chloe and Toby for a walk to Timmies. I geared up Shamas in his Helpemup harness, in case he needed a hand on the way home, and off we went. Trixie was over the moon! DOGS! But after taking her off the halti long enough to meet and greet, she settled into the walk. My dad ended up taking the three old ones on the way home, so I pulled off the Halti and let Trixie go flat-collar. We both prefer walking her that way, and only use Halti if I'm outweighed by the dogs I'm walking. I always laugh when my dad and I are out, because we inevitibly get asked "are you a dog walker?" Whomever waits with the pack while the other gets the coffee gets the questions LOL

Sunday morning, Shamas was a bit out of sorts...so I gave him the reumecam. He was better by the time I got home from work. I suspect the long walk in cooler weather made his hips sore. But he was up for an evening walk

We went Triple Threat LOL

I called my eldest to see if they were available, and we met at the park. The dogs were thrilled! Angel started whining/singing halfway down the block and old boy waddled over to say hello first. He walked last night with bright eyes and high tail, even if he WAS a bit stiff. Near the end he tripped/ dropped a couple of steps, so hubby drove the car up to us. It was another hour long walk...second day in a row...so I'm not surprised he got tired. Today, I think I'll just take him round the block and then take Trixie for the normal walk.

Angel and Trixie love each other. Trixie is just about as tall as Angel now...another inch or two to go. Half as thick of course, because Angel's got 6m worth of growth and filling out on her. We had to keep them apart for the walking, because every time they came in contact, they were both on their back legs, tails wagging, eating each others faces. Not exactly preferred on-leash behavior, and also a pain to seperate, with Haltis involved. I think when they play, it's going to be fenced in and naked to avoid injury.

Did another pack walk last night. Trixie's outgrown Angel in height now.

We're working on being within 6 feet of each other without jumping at each other's faces.

Shamas has FINALLY figured out the art of "checking in" when we see other dogs. It took Trixie to teach him. So when the Lab crossed the street on the other side, Shamas dragged OH to me so he could "check in" lol. Now we just need to teach him to check in with his handler LOL! At least he didn't roar at it :p

I felt bad for Angel when we left though....she was standing there howling mournfully 100 feet away.....

Need to talk to Dr Trina about whether some meds would help her seperation anxiety. It's gotten worse since she moved out

So the Double Trouble may apply more to "the Girls" than to Shamas and Trixie lol. But I like "the girls" so I'm sticking to it. :)

Trixie and Angel get along great but need a LOT of management. ESPECIALLY now that Trixie is jumping gates on a whim. So gating them into different rooms isn't the answer. I tried using the playpen(48") to bar the door, and Trixie scaled it to get to her friend.

So I put a Halti on each of them, took off the part that goes from nose to collar, just in case they engage in unauthorized play(so they don't get tangled), and we had a handler per dog. Interaction, sniffing yes....jumping, biting no. The goal is to teach them that they can run and play outside, but inside we are calm dogs. We spent most of today's visit on walks....as I explained to hubby that the best way to acclimate two young dogs is to walk them together.

We went to Chapters, then Petsmart. Hubby waited while I got a mocha...and Angel howled. This of course got her some attention because she sounded absolutely sorrowful. Bring a tear to your eye sorrowful. And people had to come to comfort her.

I replaced my treat bag, which Shamas ate....AGAIN.

And for Today's accomplishment..we were able to have Both female dogs in the back seat of the car at the same time. First time. It took 3 hours of working with them before I considered them calm enough to try it

I'm laughing tonight at my pair.

Shamas has figured out that the treats happen when Trixie also comes in from the yard. So I let them out to pee before bed and was talking to OH, and noticed Shamas staring at me.

So I asked him what.he looked at her, and at me. I called her in and gave them both a tidbit.

So then he went to her crate. "It's bedtime mom. Put her in her crate" looks at her crate, at her, and at me....clear as day lol!

They both get a treat when I crate her for the night too lol

I'm standing next to my stove this evening, looking at the overabundance of leftovers from the homemade soup..and I said " I just don't know what I'm going to do with all of this-I don't have enough storage containers. "

Right on schedule, Shamas sits at my feet with the BIGGEST grin! Give it to me mom! you can give it to me!"
