Flea and tick treatment

I have always just taken whatever the vet surgery gives us for the Pig, which used to be an advantix spot on treatment (I think that was what it was called) but recently they changed to a tablet called easecto by mipet. I find the tablet much easier and less messy - the Pig used to shake as soon as I put the spot-on stuff on and it would get flicked up the walls, and actually dissolved the gloss paint on the skirting boards 😱 but I have been very remiss with getting round to registering her with a vets here and as a result have run out of flea stuff and wanted to buy some online. I can’t really find the mipet stuff. What do others use?

I'm an Advantix girl. I used the Seresto collars this year and they're useless. And ugly. Now you're in Wales and surrounded by sheep, assess the risk of ticks; the issue I had with Bravecto was that it doesn't have any repellant properties, so ticks which hadn't attached would be brought into the house regularly, hitching a ride on their coats and then letting go on the bed. Eugh!! Not for me because of that :tmi:
I live in a very ticky area, though.

We use Bravecto and have never had any problems. Never seen a flea or a tic on Stanners.

We only use it in the summer months though, I’ve never bothered in winter.

I don’t use anything on Snowie for ticks or fleas. We are lucky that we don’t have disease-carrying ticks in the area, and he doesn’t have fleas. There are a lot of ticks around these past few days—hot weather following rain. Found a few in our bed. A few crawling on Snowie’s fur.

Since stopping all tick and flea pesticides (tablet and spot on), Snowie has not had any seizures. He’s been off epilepsy meds for a year. He used to have about two or three grand mal seizures a year.

Do your research. There is currently a class action suit out of Canada being lodged against the manufacturers of Bravecto for not fully stating all the side effects on their packaging.

Same here, I use nothing for Poppy as she had seizures using Bravecto and the collars. We just manage the situation now - and she hasn’t had a fit for 18 months. I use the Scalibor collar for Merlin in spring and summer, which works very well for him.

I use Bravecto and Milbermax for worms . Nelly doesnt have any treatment as she has some neuro issues and anyway , being white , I can see if any creepy crawly has got onto her ! I dont use any tick or flea treatment after the mid November until the following March .

I use Frontline for Oreo (it’s what she used to get at work so I’m scared to change it in case of any adverse reactions), but I’ll also put a few drops of Rose Geranium Oil on her which deters then. I brush her often enough so I can keep any eyes on any ticks - I have found some before but they’ve already been dead so the frontline had obviously worked but I just spotted it before it fell off.

I use Panacur for worms.

Bizarrely, she had 2 ticks when she was a puppy. When my son and I went to get them out they'd gone!!! I can only imagine that she must have somehow flicked them out by getting her claw in just the right place. I had seen her scratching the area where they were, and then there they were gone! Honestly!

We have nexguard for fleas and ticks ( chewy tablet) and milbeworm for worms. I can't stand the spot on stuff, this became less effective for our cats a few years ago and we switched to advantage for them. Have to say have never seen a flea on Monty, though the cats had them and I know he goes places where other dogs may well have them too.
I only tend to use from April through to October, and only give every 6 or 7 weeks, and if I think he's a bit riffy. It's a very low risk tick area here, so just not a problem for us, fleas are more likely. I get ours through the plan I'm on with our vets, and have a bit of a surplus at the moment, so happy to post you one of each if you would like to try them on The Pig?

Ah thank you for all the info! I had assumed our area was pretty ticky but don’t actually know so will ask the vet. When we were in Berkshire it was absolutely crawling with them so we always had to use tick stuff as well as flea stuff. Once she came back from daycare with 5 on her in varying states of engorgement :tmi: I didn’t know about the link between flea stuff and seizures, we are lucky that the Pig hasn’t ever had one but something to be aware of. I think I will see what the vet says then do some more research!

Thanks for the kind offer! I guess given it is the end of the creepy crawly season now maybe I will wait and see what the vet suggests but might get back to you!
