Quick update on Flicka. Now gets excited at thought of a walk, rather than cowering in her bed and frightened of the lead. I have let her off the lead in a safe place and she loves it, tail never stops wagging. She is now a happy dog though nervous of people and other dogs, but getting better. When showed a slip lead, she would run away, now I can just hold a loop of the lead and she will voluntarily move forward and put her head into it, not that I use a slip lead but wanted her to get over her fear of it. Am taking her to the vet this evening with the help of a friend, hope it doesn't put her back as it will be scary for her to be put in the car and going to a strange place. Fingers crossed for me.
You’ve both made huge strides forward.

All the best for the vet visit.

More optimistic, but I think she is going to be very lively!
She’ll keep you on your toes! 😁

I remember having to adjust speeds when I went from very slow elderly Brogan to my first foster dogs (and then later to Carbón of course ). I always thought it was hard to walk so slowly with Brogan he last year but then I couldn’t keep up with the fosters. Zippy, zippy leeetle Bodegueros! 😁

I am so thrilled for you Sonia. Progress has been exponential, any setbacks going to the vets this evening will be minor on the grand scheme of things. Flika trusts you and you now and you will be able to bring her through any hiccups.

Flicka was very scared in the car when we went to the vets last evening. She was ok in waiting room until some other dogs came in and then she was a quivering wreck (she is scared of dogs but thankfully likes the puppy next door). In the consulting room she looked like one of the adverts for abused dogs! The vet was very gentle and Flicka began to relax. My friend Hilary came with us and Hilary and the vet had long personal conversations, I didn't get a look in! However, that was beneficial to Flicka as she just sat there and took it all in. She didn't want to get back into the car! We arrived home and she went outside and did the most enormous pile of diarrhoea everywhere over the back yard!, I guess that was all due to the stress. She seems ok this morning so far.

Steve (Flicka's breeder) came today for a lesson on getting in the car. He managed to get her to jump in but she didn't like the door being closed. He said not to rush it, keep it fun. I cannot let her jump in and out too often as she is a little lame on her right fore leg. She absolutely adores him, as soon as he came she cuddled up to him and her tail didn't stop wagging. I don't know how he manages to make such a strong relationship when he has 30 dogs! He does spaniel rescue hence a lot of dogs. I am just to get her in the back of the car and make it fun with her ball and sit there with her and do that for a week about three times a day!

It sounds like you are doing an amazing job @Jelinga I love reading all the new things she is experiencing with you.
Vets are a scary place for many dogs and as it is only somewhere we go on the odd occasion (well, but for us at the minute) it can be harder to overcome that fear. Keep doing what you are doing x
