Look who I met today - tiny little GR Guide Dog puppy, Pickles - eight weeks old.
He’s really small - 3Kg! Sleeping through the night 11pm to 7am!

I often talk about Guide Dog trainers working in blindfolds - here is a photo.
They also use ‘sim specs’ which are glasses which replicate all different visual impairments. Many Guide Dog owners are VI rather than totally blind.
Guide Dog Trainer, under blindfold conditions, stood at a kerb edge holding the harness handle. Training dog Ursula (Yellow Lab x Retriever) is sitting at the kerb edge preparing to take her trainer across the road when asked, she is looking ahead and is focusing on the job in hand. Well done Ursula!

How do GD decide which pup goes where?

The supervisors get a list then allocate the pups to the available puppy walkers. If you ask for a specific breed/colour/sex you may wait longer until one comes your way. I was told a black GR/Lab called either Oliver or Spencer. You find out the name at the last minute as they are only certain a few days before they come up, due to sponsorship etc. In fact Mollie was Jackie until just before she came up. I liked the idea as my Dad was called Jackie.
