This is a post from a Guide Dog owner, I have permission to share -

“So, I’m taking an exceedingly short trip back to Scotland. As this is literally, 4 hours on train, followed by 4 hours in a nursing home, followed by darkness and back on the train early tomorrow morning, this doesn’t offer much working or free run time for my Guide Dog, Ike. Therefore, I made the decision to give Ike a short career break, spending time with his lady friend where he can flirt and run amok in the woods taking every ounce of delight, rolling in every stinking pleasure available.

As a replacement I’m using my ‘A stick called Wanda’ otherwise known as my red and white cane. Whilst she is doing her best, I’m truly exposed to the great work Ike does keeping me safe in the streets. I’m aware that I’m not as elegant as I would be with Ike as I trip over uneven pavements etc. Additionally, I’m really exposed to the fact people really don’t pay attention as they navigate their way round the streets of London - they are too engrossed with their phones, resulting in Wanda attacking their ankles!! So far she’s attacked about 5 people!!! My boy would have assessed the situation in advance and taken proactive action to avoid the numpties!
So, a valuable reminder to me, how Ike is utterly awesome and ace at his job.

Once again, thank you to everyone from the wider Guide Dog family who in their individual roles make this happen.”

...

Ike has a white and red harness as his (young) owner is deaf and blind, she works in central London. What an amazing dog and person!

This is the reason I puppy walk and the reason I can let them go - not without many tears, but hearing these stories more than makes up for the pain of all the farewells 💕

Oh wow, this is an incredible thread, not only the wonderful photos but the stories, particularly the young deaf/blind girl. Some folk are very brave and resilient and my goodness what an priceless gift a guide dog is.

I'm now in big time trouble, being late for work, not being able to pull myself away from this - oops:hmm:
