It’s amazing that he saw there was no way for the two of them to turn round, so he backed up! At no point would he have been trained to back up, he just used his brain and did it.

At one point he physically blocked her, Guide Dogs are trained to do that eg if a car suddenly pulls out of a drive in front of them.

:inlove:

We don’t deserve dogs!! How amazing!

I watched a Netflix documentary called Pick of the Litter, which follows a litter of 5 labs born to be guide dogs in the States and how much goes into making it all the way! Really eye opening!

It’s heart breaking giving pups up after twelve months or so, each one takes a piece of my heart with them.
But, when I think about it, how very lucky I am. I have my sight and I have my Tatze.

I can’t imagine being Zara’s Mum, who knows she’ll have to give her up soon as Zara is eight years old (She works full time so can’t have two dogs, Guide Dogs don’t allow them to go to homes where doggy day care would be needed as the dogs are used to being with their person 24/7 and it would be too big a change). She may have wait a year for her new dog as there is a long waiting list.

She’s written this from Zara’s point of view -

“This is something that is happening to us right now and mummy is in bits, we have no official date for my retirement, mummy says I will let her know but as I am slowing down even more now and on few occasions have actually sat down on the way to work, mummy took my harness off and I got up and carried on fine, but when the harness went back on I slowed again. Mummy is arranging for us both to have a lovely holiday and then call it a day for me. I am going to friends and have stayed with them already so mummy knows I will be truly loved - but it does not make this whole process any easier for and also with no news yet of a new dog the thought of mummy having to go back to the long cane really scares her but at the end of the day she wants what is best for me and if I tell her enough is enough then she will retire me.”

“Whispa, 9 month yellow labxret escaped with a caution today when found in the greeting card isle of a nationwide store with a child’s Easter Bunny toy in her mouth. Mum of course then had to buy it as it was covered in slobber! 😂😂😂 Staff thought it hilarious, mum less so!”
