We went to Bicester Holiday inn express for the night with Homer, lots of extra throws to cover the carpet. I head a few fireworks but they were muffled by the sound proofing and weren’t that close. Then a belated Christmas lunch at my 95 and 90 year old in-laws. There are often big displays and everyone else doing their own thing near where we live so it’s always been better to get out the area. Strangely since Homer had one of his adrenal glands removed he if not nearly bothered by the noise as he was.

We celebrated with some friends at their house, playing games, chatting, watching the New York “ball” thingy in Times Square. It was a nice night and somehow I made it to midnight without nodding off despite the fact that OH and I (and Simba!) had done a 13K walk that afternoon (training for the Camino). A minor miracle indeed.

Two friends of mine did the Camino, great experience BUT lots of blisters!Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2024 holds many lovely adventures big and small for you all!

Happy New Year all! We celebrated with our neighbours out in the street, fireworks, champagne, the lot! The dogs love this tradition and get very excited and energized by the bangs! Then yesterday OH and I had our traditional New Years Day hike in the woods with the dogs - even though we were both feeling rather jaded after having been up so late. But it was worth it!

I did have a little chuckle to myself yesterday, not so very long ago I used to get many Happy New Year messages coming through at midnight --- I noticed this year it didn't happen until 9 or 10 o'clock

Yes…definitely a danger! We got new shoes, backpacks and walking poles at Christmas and will get the shoes broken in before we go. Hopefully we will be able to keep on top of any issues so they won’t get too bad.
@Lisa maybe create a separate thread for your Camino! I did it in 2007. No prep at all!! I was young and in between moving countries.
My main advice is to wear comfy running shoes. Not hiking boots. The walk is mostly on paved roads. I got terrible shin splints from walking shoes that had very hard Vibram soles.

And test your socks with them too. Need socks to be very well fitting to reduce any rubbing.
