Harley’s health journey

Harley continues to love hydrotherapy. They’ve noticed that she is over compensating on her back left leg when walking. This week they got in with her and put a pole under her back legs when the treadmill was going. She was really good and stepped over it each time, and by the third go, stopped favouring that leg which was good.
This week she has definitely been more active which is great to see and today she had a 10 minute run around and play with a 17 week old fox red puppy we met on a walk. There was lots of gentle bitey face and the pup was all over Harley. She was so good with him and the owners were lovely and intervened when he got a bit too excited.
Just a few pics from hydro this week:

Oh gorgeous Harley. It sounds like she’s doing really well @Naya , how interesting she adjusted so quickly with the pole work. Good on you for all the effort, it’s clearly paying off x

That’s so great that they actively intervene to get her working symmetrically. Nothing much is done while Snowie walks. I sometimes feel annoyed that all he does is walk, with no intervention. Just varying the straight and uphill for 20 mins. I do ask: How does he look to you? They say: Fine. Maybe I should be grateful for that. But I’d just like a bit more work on the part of the physio other than just standing there watching!!

Unfortunately we have had a set back. Ever since she cut her paw last month, she’s been limping. We have done rest for a week with just enrichment activities at home and gave her metacam, it didn’t help. Last week at physio she was limping and the physio thinks she may also have arthritis in her other front paw. We had xrays on hips and shoulders earlier this year and they were clear. She’s on green lipped mussel and tumeric daily And we have just started metacam for another 5 days. She’s starting in the pool at hydrotherapy this week so I’m hoping it will help. It’s just so horrible to see her limping so much. We have cut her walk times down, but she mainly bimbles along, lots of sniffing and occasionally finding her ball. She wants to play with her friends and I allow her to, but stop it when I can see her worsening. I don’t know what else I can do as she was doing so well. It’s a bit of a blow to be honest.

That's rotten, @Naya - I'm really sorry Harley is still limping. Good news you've got the physio this week, they may have some other ideas to help? All I can think of is if I have a muscle issue and some other physical problem pops up, it can throw everything off-kilter for a bit. Hopefully it's a temporary blip, keep us posted xxx

I was just wondering, when Harley cut her paw, was anything in there? A residual infection..or tiny foreign object? Because Harley does have arthritis, I was thinking maybe there is also something else going on.

The paw cut was a clean slice and vets checked it twice a week for 2 weeks, so don’t think it’s infection or foreign object. I do think that maybe something else is going on, but just can’t pinpoint it at the minute. Will be good to get your take when you see her later in the week x

I am so sorry @Naya and I know how deflating it feels when the progress seems to go backwards. The limping is difficult to watch, especially as you have tried so many things to help improve their movement. Hunter's limp was very bad 3 weeks ago. It was a strain in his left leg but he was limping on his right leg. It took a week of very restricted leash walks and massages before he improved. I do hope she gets back on track soon.
Xxx:hug:
