Hattie, her lump and arthritis

I’m watching this post because Snowie is now limping on waking up. Stiff right leg. Dog physio said his x-rays showed slight arthritis in the shoulder but she could feel no other problems on examination. Reckons he’s just stiff from middle age—8 years old. The limp goes after he’s walked the length of say a room. Makes me very sad nevertheless. I think we need to get him a more comfy downstairs bed even though he sleeps in every corner, moving throughout the day.

We had a memory foam bed for several years. It was an expensive bed. I hated it. It was boiling hot—I’d wake up soaked. And I’d wake up very stiff because I think I was just sinking into it, so my body wasn’t straight when I was sleeping (I don’t move in my sleep, unfortunately!). The bed company told us it was designed for people with joint problems. We eventually swapped it for a super hard bed with coil springs. It is MUCH too hard. I now sleep on a folded duvet to make it softer. But it’s definitely more comfortable than sinking into the memory foam. I’m thinking that a firm bed with a thin memory foam topping is the way to go (Goldilocks “just right”!) I’m just worried about the heat from the foam. And it’s that heat from memory foam that I’m worried about for Snowie, because he gets so hot. I do lie on his nighttime cushion every night. (It’s our nighttime ritual—he gets a rubdown at the same time.) It’s stuffed with foam chunks/bits. It is wonderfully comfortable—firm yet accommodating. I have been known to fall asleep on it until I get complaints from Snowie when he wants to “go to bed”!

It looks very comfy! That’s about the price I paid for Snowie’s bed that he’d use for digging in, and then sleep on the carpet!! :hmm: But that one had higher sides. I do like the look of this one.

She'll love it. From what I've read, memory foam that is easy to get on and off (so not too high) is best for joint issues. Quinn loves hers! It was pretty expensive but it's been two years and it hasn't lost it's shape or support at all, so good investment!

I've ordered this one Cath, not cheap but I want to do the right thing for Hattie to keep her well supported and comfortable. She's so worth it :inlove::inlove: xx

Helen, if you could come back and let us know what you think I'd be grateful. I am seriously re-considering changing the Bunty hammock now, even with lots of padding on top of it - - but a bed like this is such a lot of money i would want to know that it's really worth the investment and that it is superb quality

Of course I will Natalie, no problem. When it arrives and Hattie has road tested it I will post a review. I agree, it's a lot of money and not what I would usually spend in a month of Sunday's. Quality and support for Hattie's joint is of paramount importance. If that's what it gives it will be worth the investment to me. Watch this space! xx

We’ve been really happy with Stanley’s. He’s had it a year and it’s still in really good condition and hasn’t flattened anywhere or anything.

I reckon he’ll have it for a good few more years yet!

I thought it was quite reasonably priced but I had been looking at orvis before that 🤭
