I hope your vet is able to give you lots of advice and suggestions tomorrow. The positive is that it isn’t something neuro going on which is much harder to manage. Big hugs x

Thank you for the good wishes and apologies for not updating, it's been a little crazy here this week!

Saw the vet on Monday to have Hattie's blood pressure taken which was "spot on", good news. For now the vet would like to see how her levels change on the renal diet which we are gradually introducing over the next ten days. We have to go back in 10 weeks with a urine sample, blood pressure check and possibly another blood test.

The bad news for Hattie is NO more treats, chews, tinned sardines or any raw chicken with bones, no more dried fishskin chews/treats which are her favourite, no dried rabbit or goat ears or dried tripe sticks :( even some fruit and vegetables contains phosphorus which is what we have to lower. I am having to sneak these things to Charlie without Hattie knowing as I feel so guilty. So will have to have a good google to find chews and treats for dogs on a renal diet. If anyone knows of any please let me know.

As usual I forgot to put a few questons on my list, any guidance would also be appreciated:

1. Should I continue to give her salmon oil daily?
2. Should I continue to give her YuMove daily?

Both to support her arthritis. I have emailed the vet, just waiting for a reply.

Thank you all again for your support. xx :)

Good to hear from you Helen, can't answer your questions I'm afraid, I'm sure someone can help though.
Poor Hattie, those are all Maisy's favourite treats too, what a nuisance.
There are quite a lot of suggestions from google for dog treats without phosphorus, I'm sure you'll find something, there is a lot of information out there.

Glad your vet is being so thorough and good that Hattie's blood pressure is just right. I hope you can find some treats that are ok health-wise.

I’m glad to hear you’re getting such good support from your vet. Hope you find some suitable special treats for Hattie too!

So Hattie has been on a renal diet for a month now which thankfully as she is a foodie she hasn't turned her nose up at it. I have noticed that after our walk she is not lagging behind on the way home so hopefully her kidneys are not having to work so hard on the new diet. She is still full of beans during walks. She is still full on playing/running with Charlie and we have been going to the loch for paddling to help her arthritis. Tripping up is still evident and some days are worse to bad, on ocassions her trips almost result in her hitting the ground. The most trips I have counted during one 1 1/2 hour walk is 12 which is a lot.

I feel absolutely awful that she can't have any treats and I haven't manged to find anything that doesn't contain phosphorus. She gets cooked chicken without skin when we have it and cubes of apple, that's it. I brush her teeth, but am worried about her not having healthy chews for her back teeth and just because dogs like to chew. I am having to sneak Charlie's chews/treats to him. Honestly I feel like I am giving one child sweets and not the other. The guilt!!

Any ideas about chews and treats greatly received. Thanks xx
