Hello again

Hi everyone, popped on to say hello after a very long time. I’ve been moved by the fact that many of our lovely dogs who brought us together are now in their very mature years, or have sadly passed on. On that note, we lost Monty a few months back which completely broke our hearts. We still have the handsome Bear who is astonishingly grey for a 5 year old, but is still a little bit bonkers. Umming and aahhing about a second dog and whether to go for a rescue or a puppy. But no decisions will be made for a while.

Oh I'm so sorry about dear Monty. He was always the matching pair to my Ella 💔

Hi Natalie, it’s lovely to hear from you although so sad to hear of beautiful Monty’s death. You and he gave us so much comfort and reassurance in the way you both managed his mobility issues when we first discovered Kipper’s elbow problems. He taught us a huge amount, and with such good humour - gorgeous boy, I’ll always be grateful to him and you. Bear is looking splendid, and I’m glad he’s still a bit bonkers. He wouldn’t be Bear if he was level as a millpond, his character is far more fun!

So sorry to hear about Monty. While I only joined the forum a few days ago, I have been following the forum since it started and would like to say a big thank you to you and Monty for helping us through Holly’s elbow issues - your posts were so reassuring and helpful to us (We lost Holly last year aged 10 and a half).

Hi Natalie, great to see you back. I’m sorry to hear about Monty - Bear looks to be in fine form (many dogs go grey quite early - I think Harv was around 3).

Yes, I remember it well. Have to say in his final year or so the aversion to certain surfaces improved. Almost like... I've got other stuff to worry about right now so the floor can stay :giggl:. He became over sensitive in other ways though.

Thank you both @Karen and @HAH . You've made me well up a little. It is astonishing that he made it to the grand age of 11 and 2 months. In fact the day he died was exactly 11 years from his gotcha day. I do believe it was his absolute will to live and enjoy life that was a big part of keeping him going - his joie de vivre remained right up to his last two days. That and the cocktail of medicines, of course, and a good vet/ physio team. With wonky hips, elbows, knees, ankles and wrists he outstripped everyone's expectations - though of course, it was never enough.

I found his first grey hair at 18 months! Apparently his granny was the same, he also inherited her unfortunate pre-disposition to hotspots.

I’m so glad so see you here again, Natalie, but sad to hear about Monty. It was an honor to have met up with you and and Monty quite a few times and you played a huge role as Carbón’s fairy godmother. ❤

While it doesn’t make his loss easier, you are 100% right to be incredibly proud to get him to the honourable age of 11. Hopefully I’m not misremembering, but I recall you even saying that early on a vet had told you he’d never have a good quality of life and it wasn’t worth trying. Obviously you showed him/her the door and fought to give Monty not just a pain-managed life but a wonderful and happy life.

Bear is looking great and very distinguished with his early grey! And glad to hear he’s still a bit bonkers - keeping you on your toes. 😉
