Hello, this is Willow! Just joined….

Hi, this is Willow, she is 16 years young, deaf and now on Librella. We’ve joined your lovely forum to get advice and share experience, especially when it comes to managing arthritis.

Willow is a non-Labrador but has made lots of lovely Labrador friends over the years. She is Aussie Shepherd, Border Collie with a touch of Rottweiler accord to her DNA test.

I fostered her for a weekend on bank holiday in 2006 from the Mayhew and couldn’t bear to let her go, and decided to adopt her. It’s the best decision I ever made!

Lovely to meet you all.

Well done to you for adopting a dog , I`ve rehomed many over the years . I`m sure that others with more experience of arthritis will be along to offer their experiences x

Welcome from me and Rourke, a black Labrador, he is 10 and has very bad arthritis unfortunately. It started suddenly in March of this year, he has just had stem cell replacement therapy which sadly doesn't appear to be working at all. He does hydrotherapy most weeks and is on Liberal. I am sorry to read that Willow (love that name) has arthritis. How fascinating that you have had her DNA done, would love to do it with mine! He is a well bred dog with a pedigree but I have the feeling at a about 15 years back, a Flatboat Retriever might have got to a bitch first! Probably completely wrong :giggle:

Welcome to you both from Lilly (and me) 12 years young black girl.
We live near St Andrews in Scotland.

Lilly has had hip dysplasia since she was under a year old. And lots of other aches and pains, particularly elbows there days.
Her regular meds are currently paracetamol, YouMove Plus and Golden Paste.
Previous Previcox, co-codamol (Pardale-V) and Cartrophen........none of which were really that helpful.

Lovely to have another senior on the forum.

Hello and welcome from me and my two labs. Wispa is ten (eleven in November), Tuppence will be nine in September. Wispa fortunately seems to be in good health, apart from what may be a bit of doggie dementia which involves her barking to be let out in the night; Tuppence seems to have no idea that she’s now becoming an ‘older dog’!

There are several older dogs on the forum, so Willow will be in good company.

Hi and welcome from me and 9 year old girl, Harley. Harley has had arthritis in her front left paw/ankle joint for several years now, along with a few aches and pains. We restarted her massage therapy 2 weeks ago and it has made a big difference in her activity levels. We stopped it during covid due to constraints, and over the past 5-6 months she got worse, hence trying it again.
I look forward to hearing more about Willow and how you manage her arthritis 😊

Hello from me and my 9? 10? year-old LabX. Thankfully he does not struggle with arthritis (yet) but a previous dog (Border Collie) was very much helped by glucosamine. Lovely to have you here!

Good morning @Di&Willow , it's great to have a new member to our lovely forum, although I am sorry to hear Willow struggles with arthritis now. She looks so gorgeous.

I have Cassie, a black Lab, who is now 6. It's fair to say she was a lively girl when younger, this forum and it's predecessor helped us through her adolescent years.

Good morning @Di&Willow , and welcome to the forum - there are labs and non-labs of all sports here, so you’re in good company!
Willow is clearly a much loved part of the family.
I’m Harriet and we have Kipper, our nearly-five year old lab who has developing arthritis on one leg. We’ve recently started Librela and so far having good experiences, alongside other meds and physiotherapy.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Poppy (10) and Merlin (5).

There is something very special about older dogs... they are so sweet and loving. I had my previous dogs Billy and Bones until they were almost 16 and 13. We helped their arthritic symptoms with painkillers, and by making changes around the house so they had non-slip mats on the floor, keeping them warm, comfortable raised beds, raised eating bowls, and we made sure they did not need to use the stairs very often.

Hi from me and my yellow lab Neo 👋 He’s a young gun but my previous girl had arthritis in her latter years. Like others have mentioned, alongside medication and supplements we made everything as non slip as possible and made some ramps to help her get about. I also got her an orthopaedic bed (which she absolutely refused to use!) and we had a sling with a handle that went round her belly to give her a helping hand with steps and things if she needed it. Willow looks very cosy on her bed 🙂

Hello from me and Chewie, 4yr old black Lab. Mostly angel and occassional devil dog (mostly because he's a greedy guts). Welcome to the forum. :)
