Hello!

Hi 👋 am new here and wanted to introduce myself and my nearly 7month old yellow lab Neo! I found this site whilst searching online for some lab related advice so hoping to pick some brains soon if that’s ok. Neo is my second lab, here he is and also a photo of my previous and much missed girl Billie.FF71A6DF-E824-4CE5-A21F-4192FD8597D9.jpeg93A5A821-FACB-4FDC-9ADD-5AB6426AE57D.jpeg

Hi @Parodius , :hi: and welcome to MLF. Neo looks gorgeous and so too your much missed girl.

I hope we can answer your queries between us!

I have black Lab Cassie, who is 5. She's my first lab, although not my first dog.

Welcome from Holly and me. Holly's a (mainly) sensible 9-year old and my third Lab.
My wife and I found a puppy quite stressful after our previous sensible old girl, Cocoa. How are you getting on with Neo?

Hello @Parodius, a warm welcome to you & lovely Neo, and thank you for sharing a photo of your beloved Bille. I have Coco (German Shepherd x Lab) and Meg(an) Sparkle (Dalmatian x Lab x Collie). Both adopted as adults, hard work but very loving.

Thanks all for the welcome 🙂 Neo has certainly been a bit of a shock to the system after being used to the slower life of a senior lab, I think I had forgotten how full on puppies can be! He’s also a completely different personality in a lot of ways to Billie so have had to rethink my approach with him in a few areas but now that he’s stopped chewing me (most of the time!) things are a lot more bearable. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with a fear phase? I think this is what is happening as he has started barking at noises, reflections etc around the house and garden and is more unsettled in his crate. He’s quite a sensitive little soul so any ideas to keep his anxiety levels down would be much appreciated.

Hi @Parodius , welcome to this lovely forum from me and Kipper, my best chum who’s a 4 year old yellow lab.
Kipper was an anxious young soul, and still has his moments. I found that confidence games (like DIY agility courses, snuffle boxes with varied contents, and ‘find it’ games) helped with managing his fear phases, and in hindsight we would have benefited from playing more pressure-on-pressure-off games. There are some great ideas in the Training Toolbox thread. The number one thing I’d do differently next time (always learning!) is spend more time on relationship building with things like cooperative care, to better understand his developing character.

Hello @Parodius , a warm welcome to our friendly forum from me and Joy, four year old Black Lab in wild and windy West Yorkshire. Joy is my fifth Labrador and the third one I have had from a pup. All of them have had different personalities, apart from the obvious lab traits of loving food, swimming and people. Joy is also quite a sensitive little girl and needs reassurance from time to time. I'm sure you'll find lots of advice here. It's good to have you with us.
