Helping your dog cope with fireworks

There was a fairly loud firework display nearby last night - it must have been in a garden up the top of the road, but it went on for 20 minutes or so. Meg was a bit put out, she was reacting as if it was someone slamming a car door outside, just a bit grumbly. Coco slept through.

** If it was someone slamming a car door in the daylight they would both be up at the window, BARK BARK BARK, but in the dark, they don't react anywhere near as much if at all.

It was a war zone here but everything stopped at 9pm. The boys don't even react. I did my chemo last night and Rory had his librela so we both felt tired and snuggled on the sofa. Both went outside while they were going off and just behaved normally. Tonight will be like Armageddon

Neo is exactly the same, car doors during the day are definitely more barkable than the ones in the evening.

We took Homer to the middle of nowhere in Suffolk For 10 days. We went there last year too. The small village nearest the farm has an organised display on bonfire night. We knew when it would be so took H for a drive while it happened.

Tonight Sunday night our local church is doing their yearly big display. So will take Homer out in the car again. Hopefully that will be the end of the worst.

I've just been chatting to my neighbours. Loki, their Spaniel was frightened of the fireworks last year, his first November the 5th. This year they took him for a long walk before the bangs started then put Classic FM's Classics for pets on the radio for him and he remained calm all evening. I'm pleased for them, he's such a lovely little dog and I hate to think of him being scared.
