Glad she's eating her meals. I wonder if it's something to do with the position of her head/ neck when she takes treats, some sort of strain. I'm only guessing - I hope your vet can help.

Joy went to her bedroom bed when we got in from our walk thisevening and I left her there quietly. She then moved to her landing bed, (a bit closer to me) and stayed there for a couple of hours. Eventually she progressed to her sitting room bed ( yes, OK, she's got three beds) which is next to my chair. After a little while I joined her there, on her bed and she was happy and waggy and not scared and we had cuddles, which was lovely. It was then that I caught a distinct whiff of something that at first I thought was coming from her rear end, but on further investigation (yes, I sniffed her bum) wasn't. It actually seems to be coming from the opposite end, i.e. her mouth. I gently tried to get her to open it and let me check, which she would normally let me do with no problem. No chance today though. So that's for the vet to look at tomorrow. It's better that she's scared of him than me. I think it smells like there's some kind of infection going on there. The nurse, albeit retired, in me has great faith in my sense of smell as a diagnostic tool. Really hope it's something simple that a course of antibiotics will clear up. Not quite the homecoming I'd hoped for but it's still lovely to be back with my girl. She's special.

Joy now won't eat out of her bowl. This might be my fault because I tried putting the bit of treat that made her yelp when she took it from my hand into her bowl. She picked it up from there, yelped, dropped it, and ran away. 9.20 appointment with vet thismorning. He was very gentle with her and she let him look at her mouth. She has a slight swelling at the back of her jaw that he thinks is soft tissue related. He asked if she'd been playing tuggy games lately and yes, she and Tess have totally destroyed all their toys between them, playing non-stop tuggy games. Vet gave her a pain killing injection and some Rimadyl tablets for later on and said to try her with food in about an hour. She still won't eat even though I've mixed some tuna, which she loves in with it. I've tried putting a small amount in a different kind of bowl in a different place. She has looked at it, cried a bit then walked away. I have cut a bit of frankfurter (another favourite) into tiny pieces and put them in the landing near her bed, then walked away and left her to it. They have now gone so I presume she's eaten them. She's just barked at the recycling collecting people, which I take to be a good sign, but she keeps crying every now and then. I think she must be hungry but frightened to eat incase it hurts. Poor little girl! She's enjoying cuddles and has been licking my face and hands but she's still subdued. The vet has said that if she's no better tomorrow to take her back and they'll sedate and Xray her. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. At the moment I'm trying not to make an issue of food but just leaving tasty morsels around in the hope that they'll tempt her. Is it possible to have an anorexic labrador? What a worry!:(
