Homer has a raspy cough.

Yesterday evening Homer started having a raspy cough. At first it was a retching kind of cough as if he was going to be sick. He hasn’t actually been sick. Now it’s when he breathes in to bark, he gets a raspy retching kind of cough. In every other way he’s fine and no temperature. He's eating fine and drinking and his usual energy. He’s just coughed again when there was a knock at the door. I’ll ring the vet tomorrow morning.
Is this kennel cough?

Poor lad, it does sound like KC . There are degrees of it , some dogs are quite poorly for a few days, being sick and thoroughly miserable , others just have the hacking cough, like Reuben did a couple of years ago . Honey helped to sooth his throat a lot x

That’s what I thought. At first last night I thought he may be about to be stick but there’s definitely a cough. He has also been sneezing recently.

I’m going to have to tell hubby that he’ll have to work from home as its probably not a good idea for Homer to go to his dog walker.

Sounds like KC. It's been bad round here and there's been some nasty strains. We had it her late last year. Iver had it badly and his cough was a bit like Homers.

Oh poor love! I hope he is better soon. Have you tried giving him runny honey on a spoon? Not sure if it helps, but it makes them feel loved...

I hope Homer feels better soon. If he does start to throw up from the force of coughing, put towels down on your carpets to protect them. Wished we’d done that with Snowie when he had KC years ago. We called our bedroom The Vomitorium!

Hope he is getting better, Maisy had kennel cough a while ago and it was worse at night when she lay down, she had to get up everytime she started hacking and barking brings it on too. I gave her a tiny piece of coconut oil on a spoon each time and it stopped the cough for a bit, I think the action of licking something was as helpful as the oil itself, you musn't use too much of it.

Sounds like it.

As I understand it, there are several strains of KC, just like our cold virus , so sadly they call fall victim to a different strain soon after recovery from one . Poor love, it is horrible for them, honey can help xx
