At the vet today for Homer's rabies injection - Ouch that hurt my bank account! - there was a poster saying that at 7 years old Homer is the equivalent to 63 as a human. I've always calculated as 7 dog years for each year which would be 49.
I believe that's the broad calculation, but truer calculation is based on size and health of dog. Quinn is "34 human years" based on her DNA test, so a bit older than the 7 years calculation!

In my vet booklet there is a chart with rough age comparisons, apparently larger dogs are 'older' in human years because of size etc.
