Horrible scare this morning

Has anyone tried them?
As we all know it's not the first time that a collar has almost been responsible for a fatality.
I totally get that you will want to avoid all collars Kate, just wondering if anyone had tried these.
My SIL always has Lillys collar on when she stays with her and I'm not keen.

Thanks for the hugs and good wishes for me and Reuben too x I knew without a shadow of a doubt that something horrible had happened because for all his silly behaviour at times , Reuben has a brilliant recall , so I was in a right old state . Poor lad must have been terrified when he could hear me and couldnt get to me , he nearly ate me when he got out !
We had a grand hour and a half walk this afternoon , my elder grandson Adam came with us and happy to say that Reuben was just his usual self , maybe checking in with me a little more than he did before but happy and relaxed , thank goodness xxx

Oh I’m so sorry that you had such a horrible fright at Goliath Falls. I’m sure that Ruben will have forgotten about it completely by now and I think that a little fright when they can’t get back to you does them no harm, but thank goodness for your friend and his help!

I had QUITE a discussion with SWMBO last summer as I have never let my dog take himself off and swim without being told by me that it’s ok and that there is a retrieve article to collect. Consequently he will not go into water on a blind retrieve and it was quite frustrating but it does mean that I am in control of his entry and direction of swim.

We walk quite often along the canal and with the ducks, kayaks, barges and other traffic I can be sure that he’s safe. He leaps 12foot + on entry so I must be in control of where and when. On a hot day he will just slide quietly in to the shallow and just wet his belly if he thinks I’m not looking but go no further. I have tight fitted biothane collars with nothing hanging so I’m pretty sure it would be very difficult to get them caught.

Would it help your piece of mind if you put getting into the water on cue in the same way?

So sorry this happened @kateincornwall. A really horrible incident and whilst Reuben may have been ok, I bet you were really shaken up. Thank goodness your friend was there at that precise time to help

@Peartree , Reuben is not allowed into the river/sea/lake without a cue , its something I taught Sam and so I taught Reuben the same from the off . However , the little innocuous streams are permitted without a cue , just a shame that someone had seen fit to alter the course of one and create a dam x

Oh that’s just so unlucky then that the stream was so much more dangerous that it looked!

We went back to Golitha this morning and am happy that Reubs showed no signs of stress at all . We did some retrieving , one into water and he didnt hesitate to go in after it , very pleased and relieved x
